Athens Technical College named one of state’s top three community colleges
Athens Technical College earned designation as one of the state’s top three community colleges for 2012, the Technical College System of
Georgia’s state board announced recently in Atlanta.
The TCSG named the college as a runner-up for the state’s 2012 Perdue Award honoring the state Technical College of the Year,
TCSG board members presented Atlanta Technical College with the Perdue Award as the system’s Technical College of the Year and named Athens
Technical College and Albany Technical College as runners-up among the three finalists. The competition encompasses all 25 of the state’s technical
colleges.”
Athens Technical College President Flora Tydings accepted a resolution Thursday afternoon (December 6) from TCSG state board Chair Lynn
Cornett in recognition of the college’s achievement as runner-up for the state’s best technical college.
“There are 25 great community colleges in our state, and we’re honored to be among the top three again this year,” college President Flora
Tydings said, “I attribute our success to our faculty, staff, students and business partners who all help make Athens Technical College a great college
year after year,”
Judging for the award is based on almost two dozen performance categories in the areas of technical education, adult education, economic
development, resource development, administration and national recognition. The criteria includes enrollment numbers, the number of graduates and
graduation rate, student retention rate, job placement record, licensure rate, cost efficiencies and the number of GED graduates who transition to
college courses.”
The top-rated college receives the Perdue Award for the Georgia Technical College of the Year while the two runners-up receive a board resolution
recognizing their success. The award is named for former Gov. Sonny Perdue and his support of the technical colleges and their mission of workforce
development through technical and adult education.
