Greene chamber honors ATC Board member’s manufacturing plant
The Greene County Chamber of Commerce honored the NIBCO manufacturing facility in Greensboro as the Large Business of the Year
during the chamber’s annual meeting and awards banquet Thursday, March 28.
Larry Conn, Greene County representative on the Athens Technical College Board of Directors, serves as plant general manager for the
Greensboro NIBCO facility that makes plastic fittings for the commercial and industrial markets.
Founded and headquartered in Indiana, NIBCO has a manufacturing history that spans more than 107 yearsand has operated under four
generations of family leadership and employee ownership. The company operates 10 manufacturing plants and distribution centers throughout the
United States, Mexico and Poland. The Greensboro plant has been running for 33 years.
In recognizing the Greensboro NIBCO plant as the Large Business of the Year, the chamber’s incoming Chairwoman Vickie Jenkins cited the
many ways the company and its employees have been involved in the Greene County community.
The Festival Hall cultural and performing arts center in Greensboro, the FERST Foundation of Childhood Literacy, the Southland Jubilee, the
Union Junction Jamboree, the American Cancer Society’s local Relay for Live, the Peter Nance Boys & Girls Club, the chamber of commerce, the
Greene County Christmas Stocking Fund, Greene County Schools, the Special Olympics, the 4H and many other organizations have benefitted from
NIBCO’s generosity, Ms. Jenkins told those in attendance.
NIBCO employees also provide maintenance to the Union Point Theater Renovation, serve as mentors, join local boards and civic
committees, participate in Career Day at local schools, help out with Habitat for Humanity home construction and are active in the Manufacturers
Council.
Giving back to the community is important to the company, Mr. Conn said in an email statement .
“This award recognizes the involvement of our associates in supporting important community activities. Since the start-up of our operations
in January, 1980, we have strived to be an active contributor to our community and understand the importance of corporate citizenship,” Mr. Conn
said. “NIBCO Inc. is honored to receive the Large Business of the Year Award from the Greene County Chamber of Commerce, and our team is
pleased to be recognized in this way by our peers.”
