Larry Conn, Greene County representative on the Athens Technical College Board of Directors, serves as plant general manager for the Greensboro NIBCO facility that makes plastic fittings for the commercial and industrial markets. Founded and headquartered in Indiana, NIBCO has a manufacturing history that spans more than 107 yearsand has operated under four generations of family leadership and employee ownership. The company operates 10 manufacturing plants and distribution centers throughout the United States, Mexico and Poland. The Greensboro plant has been running for 33 years. In recognizing the Greensboro NIBCO plant as the Large Business of the Year, the chamber’s incoming Chairwoman Vickie Jenkins cited the many ways the company and its employees have been involved in the Greene County community. The Festival Hall cultural and performing arts center in Greensboro, the FERST Foundation of Childhood Literacy, the Southland Jubilee, the Union Junction Jamboree, the American Cancer Society’s local Relay for Live, the Peter Nance Boys & Girls Club, the chamber of commerce, the Greene County Christmas Stocking Fund, Greene County Schools, the Special Olympics, the 4H and many other organizations have benefitted from NIBCO’s generosity, Ms. Jenkins told those in attendance. NIBCO employees also provide maintenance to the Union Point Theater Renovation, serve as mentors, join local boards and civic committees, participate in Career Day at local schools, help out with Habitat for Humanity home construction and are active in the Manufacturers Council. Giving back to the community is important to the company, Mr. Conn said in an email statement . “This award recognizes the involvement of our associates in supporting important community activities.
