"Ted" Rees Jr. Scholarship Foundation to help with Mr. Hall's college costs. The Rees Scholarship is administered by the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI). The scholarship was established to help with the recruitment and competency of future heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) technicians by awarding scholarships to qualified students who are enrolled in an institutionally accredited school and preparing for a career in the HVACR field. Officials with the AHRI Rees Scholarship Foundation announced Mr. Hall’s scholarship by letter to Carter Stanfield, program chair of Air Conditioning Technology at the college. Mr. Hall, who expects to graduate with his diploma following spring semester 2014, said the Rees Scholarship, along with HOPE and Pell grants, will be a tremendous boost for him, since he has had to reduce his hours at his job in order to attend classes at the college five days a week. He has been working at Harrison Poultry for 11 years in a full-time position and has been working six days a week, but company officials have accommodated him by allowing him to adjust his work schedule so that he can concentrate on his college regimen, he added. “It’s been hard enough just trying to keep an A average as it is,” he said. While Mr. Hall is focusing on his studies to complete his degree, he’s also harboring dreams of landing a job in the heating and air conditioning field after graduating from Athens Technical College. Mr. Hall enrolled in Athens Technical College at the prompting of his wife, Cynthia, who holds two diplomas — Radiography and Veterinary Technology — from the college. “I really wanted to apply and earn this degree,” Mr. Hall said. “My wife was encouraging me.” Don Nelson 706 227-5460 Athens Technical College * 800 US Hwy 29 North * Athens, Ga * 30601 * 706-355-5000 * A Unit of the Technical College System of Georgia About ATC Accessibility Notice Contact ATC Human Resources Open Records Act As set forth in its student catalog, Athens Technical College does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, national or ethnic origin, gender, religion, disability, age, political affiliation or belief, genetic information, veteran status, or citizenship status (except in those special circumstances permitted or mandated by law).
