Technical and Industrial students stand out in national SkillsUSA competition
Two Athens Technical College students recently demonstrated outstanding technical knowledge and skills during competition at the national
SkillsUSA Championships. The event was held in Kansas City June 24 to June 28 and showcased more than 6,000 of the country’s best career and
technical students who attend community colleges and high schools. The students compete against the clock and each other in 98 different technical,
trade, and leadership fields covering a wide range of subjects, including electronics, carpentry, medical assisting, and culinary arts.
Bobby Jolley, a student in Air Conditioning Technology at Athens Technical College, earned a spot as a finalist in the carpentry competition at
the event, and Electronics Technology program student Alex Noble, placed fourth overall in the electronics technology competition. Mr. Noble also
became a certified electronics technician by passing the national exam given at SkillsUSA by the International Society of Certified Electronics
Technicians.
The two Athens Technical College students earned invitations to the SkillsUSA national arena by capturing gold medals for first place showings
in the state SkillsUSA contest held in March in Atlanta. Mr. Jolley won the carpentry competition, and Mr. Noble took top honors in the electronics
division.
Mr. Jolley will graduate with his diploma in Air Conditioning Technology following the current summer semester. He has finished his Air
Conditioning System Maintenance Technician technical certificate of credit and the Air Conditioning Electrical Technician TCC.
Mr. Noble plans to graduate next spring after earning his associate in applied science degree in Electronics Technology.
