NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release 6/9/2014 Athens Technical College Announces Summer Short Session for July ATHENS, GA (6/9/2014) – Athens Technical College is adding a five-week summer short session beginning Monday, July 7, 2014. Students completing a course during the summer short session will receive full-semester credit hours. “Adding a five-week summer session allows students to get a jumpstart for the fall semester,” according to Dr. Leslie Crickenberger, Vice President for Student Affairs. “Having a later start date than a traditional summer short session will also allow graduating high school seniors the ability to take a college course in the summer.” General education core courses will be offered, including: Art Appreciation (ARTS 1101), Composition and Rhetoric (ENGL 1101), College Algebra (MATH 1111), Precalculus (MATH 1113), American Government (POLS 1101), and Introductory Psychology (PSYC 1101). Courses are open to new and current Athens Technical College students as well as transient students. Many course credits transfer; students should check with their home institution for transfer confirmation. Through an articulation agreement between the Technical College System of Georgia and the University System of Georgia, courses at the 1100 level and above transfer to USG institutions. Students attending the summer short session will also have the opportunity to sign up for fall classes during early registration. Students are encouraged to apply by June 17 to ensure acceptance prior to the summer short session. Financial aid is available for qualified students.
