PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release 11/26/2014 Photo Attached Contact: Sherry Abrams, Director of Public Relations (706) 583-2552, [email protected] Director of Library Services Receives Recognition ATHENS, GA (11/26/2014) – The Georgia Library Association (GLA) recognized the outstanding service of Carol Stanley, director of library services at Athens Technical College, to the organization by presenting her with the Bob Richardson Memorial Award. Established in 2001, the award, which honors Bob Richardson’s dedicated service to GLA, is given to an individual who has made significant contributions to the organization through their time and effort. “Carol’s passion, dedication, knowledge, and experiences have greatly assisted in advancing GLA goals, from emceeing the scholarship raffle to facilitating entire state conferences,” said Jean Cook, GLA Awards Chair. “This award formally recognized all of her contributions.” In January 2015, Stanley will celebrate 20 years with Athens Technical College. She began her career at the college as the evening librarian and was interim director of library services from 1996-1997. For 11 years, she held the position of branch librarian at the Athens Technical College Elbert County Campus before being named director of library services in 2011. Citing her personal mission, Stanley strives to help people find the information they need and to provide a welcoming environment with useful services and resources. She has also worked diligently to enhance the virtual offerings of the library catalog and online library help services. Stanley has also received the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) Library Council Leadership Award (2000) and the Kovacs Award for Outstanding Alumni Achievement from UNC at Greensboro, Department of Library and Information Studies (2010). An active member of the GLA since 1995, Stanley has served on the public relations committee, nominating committee and membership committee. She was also elected to leadership positions within GLA including treasurer, 2nd vice president of membership, 1st vice president/president elect, and GLA president. -More- Director of Library Services - Page 2 Originally from Hillsborough, NC, Stanley earned a B.A. in Business Management from North Carolina State University and a Masters in Library Science from University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Prior to working for Athens Technical College, she was a librarian at Queens College in Charlotte, NC.
