Dove will attend the annual EAGLE Leadership Institute held in Atlanta March 16-18, 2015, sponsored by the Office of Adult Education at the Technical College System of Georgia. The EAGLE program celebrates adult learners in pursuit of excellence. Nominees are judged based on their transition to postsecondary education, performance in the classroom, student character, leadership, and community involvement. Dove, currently enrolled in her third semester in the college’s Cosmetology program, is a 2013 GED® program graduate. Upon graduation from the Cosmetology program, she hopes to have her own hair salon to make wigs for children with cancer. During her acceptance speech at a college-wide reception, Dove remarked on how much earning a GED® diploma meant to her. “A GED is more than a piece of paper,” said Dove. “It is hope, power, and a life changer.” The college’s finalist including the winner are Jamisha Dove (nominated by Darlene Alley, Walton County Lead Instructor), Lawanda Miller (nominated by Dr. Kristi Leatherwood, Greene County Lead Instructor), and Aquincy Young (nominated by Catrina Cofer, Clarke County Lead Instructor). Miller is hoping to use her experiences to write a book. Young, a U.S. Army veteran, is currently enrolled in the college’s Automotive Technology program.
