Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions - FAQs
Would I need separate recommendation letters and personal statements from those I already submitted for
my other applications? Yes, you would need separate letters of recommendation. The two letters of
recommendation that you submit with your Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences (MSBS) application
would need to recommend you for our program. Those letters can be submitted either via Interfolio, sent in the
regular mail to either our physical address or PO Box, or they can be scanned and emailed directly the Office of
MSBS. The letters do need to be on letterhead and have a signature; if they are emailed, they need to come
from a professional email address (not a yahoo.com, etc.).
Does Campbell give special consideration towards their MSBS students after they have completed the
program and apply to any of the health professions programs? As a MSBS student, if you are doing well
academically (As/Bs) you can apply to any health professions program offered by Campbell University during
the fall semester of your first year with the recommendation of your advisor. Consult specific program
guidelines for admission. There is, however, no guarantee of acceptance due to your MSBS student status.
Are classes taught in the MSBS similar to an undergraduate level or graduate level? MSBS classes come
from the curricular content of the medical school.
Can students qualify for financial aid? Yes, you can apply for federal financial aid as our program is fully
accredited.
Is it possible to work while enrolled in the MSBS program? The MSBS program is quite rigorous, particularly
within the first year of the curriculum. Some students have worked full-time or part-time while in the program;
however, it is preferable to focus your efforts on succeeding academically.
How long does it take to get an answer once I submit my application? There are several steps in the
application process, including receipt of transcripts and letters of recommendation; however, every attempt is
made to process applications in a timely manner. You can also regularly check with the Office of MSBS on the
status of your application.
Can I schedule a time to visit CUSOM’s Office of MSBS and tour the facility? Absolutely! Just call or email
to set up an appointment. – (see contact information below).
After you receive my application, transcript(s), and letters of recommendation, what time frame am I looking
at to get a decision if I am accepted? Once the application is complete, you will be so notified and it will be
reviewed promptly. If your application meets the criteria and the mission of our program, we will invite you for
the next available interview. Most applicants have an answer within two weeks following their interview.
What options do I have with an MSBS degree if I am not accepted into a health professions program?
Throughout your MSBS experience, your advisor will help you critique your strengths and weaknesses. Your
academic performance in the program will guide you in determining the best health professions fit for you.
However, with the completion of the two-year MSBS program, your degree will qualify you for positions in
various health fields, to include biomedical research, as well as various teaching opportunities.
