The Game
The Liberty Lady Flames (4-0, 0-0 Big South) will play their second straight road game
against a Patriot League opponent, Saturday at 1 p.m. Liberty will travel to Lafayette (1-4,
0-0 Patriot) for its first-ever matchup against the Leopards, a team which is trying to snap
a three-game losing streak.
Last Time Out
Liberty won the Navy Classic championship on Nov. 21, after coming back from a
20-4 deficit to defeat host Navy. Championship Game All-Star Devon Brown scored 14 of
her game-high 19 points during the second half for the Lady Flames, and also added 11
rebounds and five steals.
On Deck
Liberty will return to the Vines Center for its next two games. The quick homestand
begins Dec. 1 at 7 p.m., with a contest against undefeated Commonwealth foe James
Madison.
Lady Flames On The Air
All Lady Flames basketball games may be heard LIVE on WWMC 90.9 FM “The
Light.” Jamie Hall, celebrating his 16th year of broadcasting Lady Flames basketball, will
once again be handling the courtside play-by-play duties for road games. Nick Pierce and
Josh Wood will serve as the primary commentators for home contests.
Lady Flames On TV
For the seventh season in a row, the Flames Sports Network (FSN) plans to broadcast all 15 home women’s basketball games. FSN’s regular announcing team will consist
of Ray Jones on play-by-play and Jamie Hall on color.

Liberty head women’s basketball coach Carey Green, beginning his 11th season with
the Lady Flames, has instilled quite a winning tradition during his tenure at the institution.
His teams have averaged more than 23 victories per year, putting his name alongside the
nation’s premier women’s basketball coaches.
Green has accumulated a 241-77 record on the Liberty bench, good for a winning
percentage of .758. He currently ranks ninth all-time among NCAA Division I women’s
basketball coaches in winning percentage, ahead of renowned coaching names like Rutgers’ Vivian Stringer, LSU’s Van Chancellor and North Carolina’s Sylvia Hatchell.
More importantly, Liberty has won the Big South Tournament title and advanced to the
NCAA Tournament nine times with Green as head coach. Liberty has totaled 23 or more
victories during eight of those years, including the 2004-05 season, which saw the Lady
Flames reach the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.
Green has actually been to the postseason on 21 occasions as a women’s basketball
coach, a span which includes a dozen years as an assistant coach at Clemson. In all but
one of the 21 appearances, he has experienced the NCAA Tournament.
Last season, Green earned his unprecedented fifth Big South Coach of the Year
award, after guiding a team decimated by ACL injuries to a 24-9 record and its 12th NCAA
Tournament appearance in the last 13 years. The Lady Flames also won the Hokie Hardwood Classic, claiming their first-ever victory over Virginia Tech in the tournament championship game.
At season’s end, Green saw his second player selected in the WNBA Draft, as Megan
Frazee was taken in the second round by the San Antonio Silver Stars. She then played
part of her rookie season alongside 2005 Liberty alum Katie (Feenstra) Mattera in San
Antonio.
Rebounding and defense have always been staples of Green-coached teams, and
the 2008-09 Lady Flames were no exception. Liberty outrebounded opponents by an average of 12.7 caroms per game, ranking second nationally. The Lady Flames have now
been listed among the nation’s top five teams in rebounding margin for six straight years.
Liberty led the nation in the category in 2003-04 and 2004-05. The Lady Flames also
ended the season ranked in the top 10 nationally for scoring defense (second, 52.6 ppg)
and field goal percentage defense (sixth, .345).
A key late-season conference victory over High Point in 2006 made Green the winningest coach in Big South Conference history. He is also Liberty’s career wins leader.
The 2004-05 year was a special one on Liberty Mountain, for many reasons. A seniorladen Lady Flames team recorded upset wins over No. 4 seed Penn State (78-70) and No.
5 seed DePaul (88-79) in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, becoming just the
second team ever to advance to the Sweet 16 as a No. 13 seed. The Lady Flames ended
the season with their highest national ranking to date, No. 21 (USA Today/ESPN).
Green’s track record shows he has the ability to meet those challenges. The Lady
Flames have recorded two wins over UNLV, Virginia and West Virginia and solo victories
over No. 19 DePaul, No. 17 Kansas State, No. 25 Penn State, Virginia Tech and Wake
Forest during Green’s tenure. The upset victory over No. 25 Virginia in 2003 marked Liberty’s first win over a Top 25 team.
His record against conference foes is equally impressive. He led the Lady Flames on
a Big South record 47-game winning streak and currently owns a .917 (154-14) winning
percentage against conference teams. Green has marched through conference play with
one or fewer setbacks seven times, while guiding the Lady Flames to two undefeated
conference seasons.

Scouting Lafayette
The 1-4 Lafayette Leopards enter Saturday’s contest on a three-game losing streak,
after dropping a 58-38 home decision to St. Bonaventure Tuesday. Lafayette’s lone victory
this season was a 58-55 win at Monmouth on Nov. 16.
LaKeisha Wright, a 5-11 junior guard/forward, leads the Leopards with 10.0 ppg.
Amanda Smith, a 6-3 senior center, pulls down a team-best 4.4 rpg.
Last season, Lafayette finished 10-22 but made an improbable run to the championship game of the Patriot League Tournament as the No. 7 seed. However, archrival Lehigh
defeated the Leopards in the title contest, 64-56.
The Coaching Matchup
Liberty Head Coach Carey Green is in his 11th season with the Lady Flames, and has
led his team to nine Big South titles. A five-time Big South Coach of the Year, Green owns
a 241-77 career record and is the all-time wins leader at Liberty and among Big South
women’s basketball coaches. His career winning percentage (.758) ranked ninth all-time
among NCAA Division I women’s basketball coaches at the season’s outset.
Tammy Smith is 42-163 in her ninth season as Lafayette’s head coach. In 17 total years as a collegiate head coach, which also includes eight seasons at Muhlenberg,
Smith’s record is 165-253.
Liberty-Lafayette Series Notes
Saturday’s game will be the first-ever matchup between Liberty and Lafayette on the
basketball hardwood.
Liberty Versus the Patriot League
After defeating Navy in the championship game of the Navy Classic on Nov. 21, the
Lady Flames improved to 6-8 all-time versus current members of the Patriot League.
Liberty is 4-4 all-time against American, the newest conference member, and 2-4 versus Navy.
Meeting at Last
Liberty has never faced Lafayette in women’s basketball, but the Lady Flames have
competed at the same tournament as the Leopards three times in the last seven seasons.
On Dec. 29-30, 2003, the Lady Flames traveled to the Kirby Sports Center for the
Lafayette Holiday Tournament. Liberty won the tournament title, but did not face the host
Leopards at the event. The Lady Flames’ victories came against Loyola (Md.) and Cornell.
Last season, Liberty and Lafayette were a part of the same four-team Preseason
WNIT consolation bracket at Western Carolina, Nov. 21-22, 2008. However, the Lady
Flames and Leopards did not meet, because Liberty defeated UC Riverside in its opening
contest, while Lafayette fell to Western Carolina.
The Lady Flames and Leopards were both part of the 2008 Hokie Hardwood Classic
as well, at Virginia Tech’s Cassell Coliseum, Dec. 29-30. Liberty won the tournament title,
after defeating the other two tournament participants, North Carolina A&T and Virginia
Tech.

Tournament Success
Liberty’s Navy Classic championship was the Lady Flames’ fourth regular-season
tournament title in the last three seasons. The Lady Flames have also captured the National City Xavier Invitational, UNLV Lady Rebel Christmas Classic and Hokie Hardwood
Classic championships in recent years.
Welcome Back to the Keystone State
Saturday’s game will be the Lady Flames’ first contest in Pennsylvania since the 2004
NCAA Tournament. That year, the Lady Flames played Georgia at Temple’s Liacouras
Center in Philadelphia, March 20, 2004. The Bulldogs defeated Liberty in the first round,
78-53.
Nifty in November
Liberty is 62-37 all-time during the month of November, and the Lady Flames have
gone 27-19 during the year’s 11th month with Carey Green as head coach. Last season,
the Lady Flames struggled during the opening month of the season, going 1-4. Liberty’s
lone November win in 2008-09 was notable, as a 45-44, buzzer-beating triumph over UC
Riverside on Nov. 21 marked the first Preseason WNIT victory in program history.
In 2009-10, the Lady Flames are 4-0 in November. If Liberty defeats Lafayette on
Saturday, it will wrap up the Lady Flames’ first unbeaten November since 2002-03. That
season, Liberty went 3-0 during the month, including a 77-69 overtime win over No. 25
Virginia at the Vines Center on Nov. 26, 2002.
Big Shoes to Fill
Seven seniors graduated from last year’s Liberty team, which went 24-9 and won
its second consecutive Big South title. The graduates, who include Alexandria Bream,
Megan Frazee, Molly Frazee, Moriah Frazee, Rachel Hammond, Rebecca Lightfoot and
Jessica Nelson, accounted for 57.0 percent of the Lady Flames’ points and 41.7 percent
of the team’s rebounds in 2008-09.
Headlining the group was Megan Frazee, who claimed the Big South Player of the
Year and Big South Championship MVP awards before being drafted by the WNBA’s San
Antonio Silver Stars.
Memorable Debut
Redshirt freshman Devon Brown was among four Lady Flames who made their collegiate debuts during Liberty’s 71-26 win over Winston-Salem State on Nov. 13. Brown led
Liberty with 26 points and added seven rebounds. Her point total was notable for several
reasons.
-- It was the most points a Lady Flame has scored in her collegiate debut since Elena Kisseleva scored 30 points against Bluefield on Nov. 23, 1996.
-- It marked the first time since Feb. 26, 1976 that a Liberty player has matched or exceeded the opponent’s score. That day, Trena Criss (33 points) outscored Roanoke College (22) by herself.
-- It was the most points scored by any Liberty player other than Katie Feenstra or Megan Frazee since Dec. 4, 2004. That day, Kristal Tharp racked up 26 points in the Lady
Flames’ 77-56 victory over No. 17 Kansas State.
First Since Frazee
After averaging 21.0 ppg and 10.7 rpg during Liberty’s 3-0 week, Devon Brown was
honored as Big South Player of the Week on Tuesday. She became the first Lady Flames
freshman to win the award since Megan Frazee captured it twice during her rookie season
(Dec. 5, 2005 & Jan. 16, 2006).
Battling the Unbeatens
Liberty has opened the 2009-10 season by facing four consecutive unbeaten teams,
including Winston-Salem State, UNC Greensboro, Tulane and Navy.

Clamping Down on Defense
The Lady Flames have held 88 consecutive opponents under 50 percent field goal
shooting. The last Liberty foe to sink more than half of its field goal attempts was Marist,
at the Maryland Terrapin Classic on Dec. 29, 2006.
In 2008-09, the Lady Flames ranked No. 6 nationally in field goal percentage defense,
allowing opponents to shoot just 34.5 percent for the season.
Liberty is off to a strong start this season, holding its first four opponents to 40.8 ppg
and 32.8 percent shooting from the field. The Lady Flames lead the Big South in both
categories.
Clamping Down on Defense, Part 2
Liberty limited Winston-Salem State to 26 points during its season-opening victory on
Nov. 13. It was the fewest points scored by a Lady Flames opponent since a 79-26 win

The Container is Half Full
This season, the Lady Flames are 1-0, when shooting 50 percent or higher from the
field. Liberty is now 60-0 under head coach Carey Green, when the Lady Flames sink at
least half of their field goals.
Liberty Versus Non-Conference Opposition
Liberty is 4-0 against non-conference opponents this season, boosting its all-time
non-conference ledger to 270-293. The Lady Flames have won 13 of their last 15 non-Big
South tilts at the Vines Center.
Liberty’s best-ever season against non-conference foes came in 1997-98, when the
Lady Flames went 14-1 outside the Big South. Liberty’s lone non-conference setback that
season came to eventual national champion Tennessee in the first round of the NCAA
Tournament.
Lady Flames to Face Wide Variety of Non-Conference Foes
Liberty is scheduled to face opponents from eight different conferences this season,
including CAA (James Madison) Conference USA (Tulane), Ivy (Cornell), MEAC (North
Carolina A&T, Winston-Salem State), Patriot (Lafayette & Navy), SEC (Auburn), Southern
(UNC Greensboro) and WVIAC (Glenville State) foes.
Depending on how the Marriott Cavalier Classic plays out, the Lady Flames could
also square off an ACC opponent (Virginia).

Painting a Masterpiece
Last season, Liberty regularly controlled the area around the basket, outscoring 29 of
33 opponents in the “points in the paint” statistical category.
This year, the Lady Flames are off to an outstanding start in racking up “points in the
paint” once again. Through four games, Liberty has outscored its opponents by the wide
margin of 138-52 in the paint.
Keeping Good Company
Liberty finished the 2008-09 season ranked in the top 10 nationally in four statistical
categories. The Lady Flames ended up No. 2 in both scoring defense (52.6 ppg allowed)
and rebound margin (+12.7). They were also No. 6 in field goal percentage defense (.345)
and No. 10 in field goal percentage (.456). Liberty has now ranked as one of the nation’s
top five teams for rebounding margin for six consecutive seasons.
The only other NCAA Division I women’s basketball team to end up in the top 10 of
those four statistical categories last year was undefeated national champion Connecticut.
There is Only One
Point guard Amber Mays is the only senior on this year’s team roster. Liberty has not
had so few seniors since the 2005-06 Lady Flames played the season without a single
senior.

Longest-Tenured Assistant Coaches
The 2009-10 season is Heather Stephens’ seventh campaign as an assistant coach
on Carey Green’s coaching staff. This season, she snapped a tie with Jeri (Wiley) Porter
as the longest-tenured assistant coach in Liberty women’s basketball history. Porter is
now the head coach at George Mason.
The Lady Flames have gone 150-45 and won five Big South titles during Stephens’

Same Number, New Face
It may take a few games for Liberty fans to get used to seeing a new player wearing
the No. 40 uniform, after Megan Frazee donned the number for the last four seasons.
Among many other accomplishments and accolades, Frazee graduated as the No. 2 scorer (1,883 points) and No. 3 rebounder (951 rebounds) in program history, leaving some
very big shoes to fill.
Liberty’s new No. 40, Devon Brown, has worn the number proudly so far. The redshirt
freshman from Waynesboro, Va., the reigning Big South Player of the Week, is averaging
22.3 ppg and 9.8 rpg.

Corralling the Caroms
Liberty has ranked among the nation’s top five teams in rebounding margin for six
consecutive seasons, including a No. 2 listing in 2008-09. Even though two of the top
three rebounders from last year’s squad graduated, the Lady Flames have gotten off to a
strong start again this season.
Liberty has won the rebounding battle in each of its first four games this season, by an
average of 12.3 boards per contest. Leading the way are redshirt freshman Devon Brown
(9.8 rpg) and redshirt sophomore Avery Warley (8.3 rpg).
2009-10 Opponents in the National Rankings
One of Liberty’s potential 2009-10 opponents, Virginia, appears in both the AP and
ESPN/USA Today Coaches Top 25 rankings. The Cavaliers have been listed No. 15 by
the AP and No. 18 in the ESPN/USA Today poll.
Liberty could meet Virginia on its home floor at John Paul Jones Arena Dec. 29, pending the results of the previous day’s games in the Marriott Cavalier Classic.
Lack of Overtime
Liberty has played only one overtime game in its last 183 outings, a 64-62 setback at
High Point on Jan. 20, 2007. Since that contest at the Millis Center, the Lady Flames have
played 80 consecutive games without needing extra time.
The Lady Flames’ most recent overtime victory came on Jan. 6, 2004, when Liberty
defeated American, 76-72, on the road in double overtime. No current Lady Flame has
won an overtime contest in college.
Liberty’s most recent overtime contest at the Vines Center was a memorable one. The
Lady Flames defeated Virginia, 77-69, in overtime on Nov. 26, 2002, to claim their firstever win over the Cavaliers. It also marked Liberty’s first win over a ranked opponent, as
Virginia entered the game with a No. 25 national ranking.
Recipe for Success
Last season, Liberty won 24 games and several common themes cropped up during
many of the Lady Flames’ victories. Liberty was 23-0 when leading with 5:00 to play in
the contest, 11-0 when scoring 71 or more points and 10-0 when shooting 50 percent or
higher from the field. The first two of those trends held true during the Lady Flames’ win
over Winston-Salem State, as Liberty led with 5:00 remaining and tallied 71 points.
A-MAYS-ing Amber
Senior point guard Amber Mays enjoyed a strong first season with the Lady Flames
in 2008-09, after spending her first two years of college at State Fair Community College.
Numerous times, she recorded certain statistics which were the “first since ...” or “most
since ...”
Here are a look at some of Mays’ notable accomplishments from last season.
-- Played the most minutes (1,002) in program history since Stacey White in 1989-90.
-- Tallied the most steals (68) by a Lady Flame since Sharon Wilkerson in 1999-2000.
-- Finished with the most assists (126) by a Lady Flame since Sarah Wilkerson in 1998-99.
-- Came up with eight steals against East Tennessee State on Jan. 13, the most by a Lady
Flame since Sharon Wilkerson had eight versus High Point on Feb. 21, 2000.
-- Totaled 10 points, eight assists, six rebounds and five steals against St. Paul’s on Dec.
13, recording the first 10-5-5-5 stat line by a Lady Flame since Sharon Wilkerson accomplished the feat Feb. 18, 1999 against UNC Asheville.
Windex Warley
Avery Warley immediately endeared herself to head coach Carey Green last season
as a redshirt freshman, by virtue of her exceptional rebounding ability. The Washington,
D.C., native finished her rookie season with 256 rebounds, which ranks second among
freshmen in program history (behind Cheri Yates’ 267 rebounds in 1988-89). Warley is
already one of the top 50 rebounders in program history, just four games into her sophomore season. She ranks No. 49 all-time, with 289 rebounds.

The Lady Flames were tabbed to repeat as Big South Conference champions in the
preseason coaches and media poll, with High Point voted a conference co-favorite. Liberty claimed nine of 20 first-place votes and earned 160 total points, which was the same

The Lady Flames ranked only sixth in the Big South Conference in steals during the
2008-09 season, averaging 7.9 steals per contest. This season, an active, aggressive Liberty defense has produced a Big South-leading average of 11.8 steals, through the year’s
first four games.
As expected, senior point guard Amber Mays is the Lady Flames’ chief thief so far,
with 13 steals. She recorded a team-high 68 steals a year ago. Mays is also getting considerable assistance from Devon Brown (9 steals) and Danika Dale (7).
A Winning Tradition
Liberty had never won more than 16 games in a season until 1996-97, when the Lady
Flames captured their first-ever Big South Conference title. That year, Liberty went 22-8.
Since then, the Lady Flames have never won fewer than 18 games and have recorded 11
total 20-win seasons.
Setting the Tone Early
Liberty shut down its first three opponents at the defensive end, immediately from the
opening tipoff. During the first 10 minutes of each game, the Lady Flames only yielded a
total of five made field goals. This defensive pressure enabled Liberty to start the game
with a 13-0 lead over Winston-Salem State, a 16-4 advantage against UNC Greensboro,
and a 24-4 lead versus Tulane.
Furious Comeback
The Lady Flames fell behind Navy, 20-4, 7:56 into the Navy Classic championship
game on Nov. 21. Liberty then outscored the host Midshipmen, 51-23, during the remainder of the game to claim an improbable 55-43 victory.
Making Them When it Counts
Liberty ranks only sixth in the Big South Conference with a .608 team free throw percentage. However, the Lady Flames came through in the clutch against Navy on Nov. 21.
Hanging onto a five-point lead with one minute remaining, Devon Brown and Amber Mays
combined to sink seven-of-nine free throws to seal Liberty’s 55-43 victory.

Liberty’s defense set the tone for its seasonopening victory over Winston-Salem State,
keeping the Lady Rams off the scoreboard
for the first 8:44 of play. Meanwhile, redshirt
freshman Devon Brown took care of things at
the offensive end, exploding for 26 points in
the Lady Flames’ 71-26 triumph at the Vines
Center. As previously mentioned, the Rams
did not find the bottom of the net for the first
8:44, as Liberty jumped out to a 13-0 lead.
The first seven points of Brown’s collegiate
career came during the Lady Flames’ gameopening surge. The Rams scored six of the
contest’s next seven markers, trimming their
deficit to 14-6 on Jillian Charlet’s layup at
the 6:38 mark of the opening half. However, Winston-Salem State managed only six
points for the remainder of the stanza, while
Liberty’s lead ballooned to 18. Brown sent
the Lady Flames into halftime with a 30-12
advantage, swishing back-to-back triples in
the final minute of the period to close out at
15-point half. Liberty put the game away with
a 20-4 run to open the second half, sparked
by a pair of freshmen. Brown had 13 points
and LaKendra Washington tallied five markers during the surge, which lasted 9:09.
Winston-Salem State got no closer than 31
for the remainder of the contest, and the
Lady Flames went on to wrap up a 45-point
win, 71-26. It was the fewest points a Liberty
opponent has scored since the Lady Flames
limited Winthrop to 26 markers on Feb. 28,
2005.

Leigh drained a 15-foot jumper to break the
ice. However, the blue-clad Spartans only
made one field goal over the next 10:37.
During their stretch of cold shooting, Liberty opened up a 16-4 lead, aided by six
Brown points. UNCG scored six of the next
nine points, trimming its deficit to 19-10 on
Lakiah Hyson’s jumper at the 5:27 mark.
The Spartans were still within nine at 23-14,
before Brown sparked a 9-3 Liberty burst
with seven points and a steal. Her theft led
to Amber Mays’ layup, which gave the Lady
Flames their largest lead of the opening half,
32-17. UNC Greensboro then scored the
stanza’s final four markers, cutting Liberty’s
halftime advantage to 11 points, 32-21. The
Spartans emerged from the locker room with
a 7-3 surge. Hyson’s triple at 16:51 closed
the run, bringing her team to within 35-28.
Another UNCG three-pointer, by Dayshaun
Richbow at 12:58, again cut Liberty’s edge
to seven, 41-34. However, the Spartans did
not make their next field goal until a Leigh
three-pointer 7:36 later. By that time, Liberty
had opened up a 54-38 advantage with a
13-4 run. Mays contributed five points to the
surge, which wrapped up with her layup at
the 6:58 mark. UNC Greensboro got no closer than 13 the rest of the evening, as Liberty
finished off a 60-42 victory in its first home
game against the Spartans since the 1997
Big South Championship title contest.

A 24-2 first-half run gave Liberty a lead it
never relinquished, and the Lady Flames
went on to win the opening game of the Navy
Classic, 63-52 over Tulane. After Tulane’s
Brittany Lindsey scored the game’s first hoop
on a lob play, the Green Wave only managed
two points over the next 12:46. During that
time, Liberty outscored green-uniformed Tulane, 24-2. Rachel McLeod scored six points
during the extended surge, including a pair
of free throws at 7:12 which gave the Lady
Flames a 24-4 advantage. The Green Wave
then began to chip away at their deficit. A
10-3 surge, capped off by Chassity Brown’s
triple from the top of the key, brought Tulane
to within 30-19, 10 seconds before the intermission. LaKendra Washington connected
on a driving layup as the buzzer sounded,
pushing Liberty’s halftime lead to 13 points,
at 32-19. Two triples by Indira Kaljo during
the first three minutes of the second period
helped Tulane cut the Lady Flames’ lead to
36-27. Brown then notched the last 10 points
of Liberty’s ensuing 12-1 run, including a 25foot three-pointer from the right wing as the
shot clock expired with 12:44 remaining on
the second-half clock. The Waynesboro, Va.,
native’s long-distance connection bolstered
the Lady Flames’ advantage back up to 4828. Tulane was not done yet, as two more
Kaljo trifectas bookended an 8-0 burst. Her
three-pointer at 10:48 made the score 48-36,
Liberty. The Lady Flames quickly pushed the
lead back to 16, 52-36, on baskets by Dymond Morgan and Brown within 42 seconds
following Kaljo’s triple. The Green Wave cut
their deficit to single digits one last time, at
61-52, when Lindsey canned a layup with
1:54 left. However, those were Tulane’s final
points of the afternoon.

After falling behind by 16 points within the
game’s first eight minutes, Liberty came
back to win the Navy Classic championship
over host Navy, 55-43. Homestanding Navy
made seven of its first 10 field goal attempts,
opening up a 20-4 advantage to start the
game. Liberty then held Navy without a point
for nearly four and a half minutes. However,
the Lady Flames only managed a pair of Avery Warley layups during the home team’s
drought, cutting their deficit to 20-8 at the
7:55 mark of the opening half. A quick 5-0
burst, capped off by a second-chance layup
by LaKendra Washington, briefly brought
Liberty to within single digits, at 24-15, 5:43
before the intermission. The Midshipmen
bolstered their lead to 30-17, before Liberty
closed the stanza on a 7-2 run. The surge
featured Brown’s first five points of the
evening, including a three-pointer from the
right wing as the halftime buzzer sounded.
Her triple made the score 32-24, Navy, at
the break. Liberty’s defense held Navy to
one made field goal during the first 11:45 of
the second half. In the meantime, the Lady
Flames composed a 20-3 run, taking their
initial lead of the contest when Dymond
Morgan drained a runner as the shot clock
expired at 12:20. Her clutch hoop made the
score 36-35, Liberty. Brown tallied 10 points
during the extended surge, including an acrobatic layup at the 8:31 mark which lifted
the Lady Flames’ advantage to 44-35. Navy
trimmed Liberty’s lead to 46-41 with 4:41
left, after three-pointers by Erin Edwards
and Consedine. The Midshipmen were also
within five, 48-43, when Angela Myers converted a steal into a fast break layup at 1:27.
However, Navy did not score again, and the
Lady Flames closed out their win by making
seven-of-nine free throws during the final
minute.
