Dear Parents/Guardian:
The Department of Academic Programs, Montgomery County Public Schools, invites you and your child to participate in the
instrumental music program at your school.
1. Class instruction in BRASS (Cornet/trumpet, trombone and baritone), WOODWIND (Flute, clarinet and saxophone),
STRING (Violin, Viola and Cello) and PERCUSSION (Snare drum, Bass drum and Auxiliary percussion) instruments will
be offered to students in Grades 4-6.Percussion not offered at all schools. Other instruments may be offer at the discretion
of the music teacher.
2.
There is NO CHARGE for the instruction, but instruments must be furnished by the parents.
3.
Classes are part of the school curriculum and are scheduled during regular school hours.
4.
Teachers will aid each students in selecting the type of instrument most suitable.
5.
Please DO NOT rent or purchase an instrument UNTIL your child has been tested for the instrument for which he/she is
best suited.
6.
Instruction is NOT given on the following instruments since they are not used in the school bands or orchestras: accordion,
guitar, banjo, ukulele, harmonica, bugle, recorder, tonette, or piano.
7.
A limited number of instruments are available for loan to students. Contact the school instrumental music teacher for
details of this program.
8.
You are urged to attend the conference with the instrumental music teacher at your school at the time and date shown on
the back of this sheet.

The Band Parent Meeting that has been set up for the Parent/Guardians of students interested in Instrumental Music is
primarily for those whose children have NOT played an instrument in the music program at Brooke Grove, Burtonsville, Highland
View or Strathmore Elementary school last year.
Instrumental music classes will be starting for all Instrumental Music students the 2 nd Week in October.
