The Game
The Liberty Lady Flames (9-7, 3-0 Big South) will conclude a quick, two-game road
swing with a tilt at UNC Asheville (7-11, 4-1 Big South), Monday at 7 p.m. The game at the
Justice Center. will match up the Big South’s second and third-place teams.
What to Watch
Liberty and UNC Asheville are two of the Big South’s hottest teams, as the Lady
Flames have won eight of their last nine games and the Bulldogs are 4-1 in their last five
outings.
The Lady Flames will attempt to continue a run of success at the Justice Center. Not
only have the Lady Flames won their last 11 road games at UNC Asheville, but they also
captured the 2008 Big South title at the facility.
Liberty senior Moriah Frazee stands just eight points shy of the 1,000-point plateau.
Lady Flames On The Air
All Lady Flames basketball games may be heard LIVE on WWMC 90.9 FM “The
Light.” Jamie Hall, celebrating his 15th year of broadcasting Lady Flames basketball, will
once again be handling the courtside play-by-play duties for most road games. Josh Wood
will serve as the primary commentator for home contests and will provide color analysis on
the road.

Tonight’s game will be televised LIVE on SportSouth. Matt Hogue will handle the playby-play and Robin Muller will provide color analysis. The Lady Flames are scheduled to
play 13 regular-season games on LIVE television this season, as all 12 of Liberty’s home
contests are televised by the Flames Television Network.

Liberty head women’s basketball coach Carey Green, in his 10th season with the
Lady Flames, has instilled quite a winning tradition during his tenure at the institution. His
teams have averaged more than 23 victories per year during his time at Liberty, putting his
name alongside the nation’s premier women’s basketball coaches.
Green has accumulated a 222-75 record on the Liberty bench, good for a winning
percentage of .747. He entered the season ranked 10th among active NCAA Division I
women’s basketball coaches in winning percentage, ahead of renowned coaching names
like Rutgers’ Vivian Stringer, LSU’s Van Chancellor and North Carolina’s Sylvia Hatchell.
More importantly, Liberty has won the Big South Tournament title and advanced to the
NCAA Tournament eight times with Green as head coach. Liberty has totaled 23 or more
victories during seven of those years, including the 2004-05 season, which saw the Lady
Flames reach the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.
Green has actually been to the postseason on 20 occasions as a women’s basketball
coach, a span which includes a dozen years as an assistant coach at Clemson. In all but
one of the 20 appearances, he has experienced the NCAA Tournament.
Last season, Green led the Lady Flames to one of the best seasons in program history. Liberty tied a school record for victories, finishing the year 28-4. Along the way, the
Lady Flames captured three tournament titles—the National City Xavier Invitational, the
UNLV Lady Rebel Christmas Classic and their eighth Big South Championship in Green’s
nine years as head coach. The latter championship earned Liberty a spot in the NCAA
Tournament for the 11th time. Green won his 200th career game, Jan. 19 at Charleston
Southern, and became the first four-time Big South Women’s Basketball Coach of the
Year in conference history.
Rebounding and defense have always been staples of Green-coached teams, and
the 2007-08 Lady Flames were no exception. Liberty outrebounded opponents by an average of 10.2 caroms per game, ranking fifth nationally. The Lady Flames have now been
listed among the nation’s top five teams in rebounding margin for five-straight years. Liberty led the nation in the category in 2003-04 and 2004-05. The Lady Flames also ended
the season ranked in the top 15 in the nation for field goal percentage defense (fourth) and
scoring defense (15th).
A key late-season conference victory over High Point in 2006 made Green the winningest coach in Big South Conference history. He is also Liberty’s career wins leader.
The record-setting victory was just one of the many reasons the 2004-05 year was a
special one on Liberty Mountain. A senior-laden Lady Flames team recorded upset wins
over No. 4 seed Penn State (78-70) and No. 5 seed DePaul (88-79) in the first two rounds
of the NCAA Tournament, becoming just the second team ever to advance to the Sweet
16 as a No. 13 seed. The Lady Flames ended the season with their highest national ranking to date, 21st (USA Today/ESPN).
Green’s track record shows he has the ability to meet strong challenges. The Lady
Flames have recorded two wins over UNLV, Virginia and West Virginia and solo victories
over No. 19 DePaul, No. 17 Kansas State, No. 25 Penn State, Virginia Tech and Wake
Forest during Green’s tenure. The upset victory over No. 25 Virginia in 2003 marked Liberty’s first win over a Top 25 team.
His record against conference foes is equally impressive. He led the Lady Flames on
a Big South record 47-game winning streak and currently owns a .914 (139-13) winning
percentage against conference teams. Green has marched through conference play with
one or fewer setbacks six times, while guiding the Lady Flames to two undefeated conference seasons.

The UNC Asheville Bulldogs have been defying expectations through the early part
of the 2008-09 season. Picked to finish fifth in the Big South standings, the Bulldogs have
won four conference games in a row to take over third place. Most recently, 5-7 senior
guard Ana Baker made a 12-foot jumper with 3.0 seconds left, giving UNC Asheville a
52-50 home victory over Radford on Saturday.
Baker, one of two Bulldogs averaging double figures in the scoring column, paces the
team with 11.5 ppg and 4.7 apg. Chioma Okoli, a 5-7 sophomore guard, chips in with 11.1
ppg. The team’s leading rebounder is 5-11 senior forward Jessica Monroe, averaging 6.3
rpg.
UNC Asheville’s current three-game winning streak is its longest since taking three
straight contests at the Justice Center to win the 2007 Big South title.
The Coaching Matchup
Liberty Head Coach Carey Green is in his 10th season with the Lady Flames, and has
led his team to eight Big South titles. A four-time Big South Coach of the Year, Green owns
a 222-75 career record and is the all-time wins leader at Liberty and among Big South
women’s basketball coaches. His career winning percentage (.747) ranked 10th among
active NCAA Division I women’s basketball coaches at the season’s outset. Green is 21-1
all-time against UNC Asheville.
Betsy Blose is 95-100 in her seventh year as UNC Asheville’s head coach. The 2004
Big South Coach of the Year owns a 209-174 overall record in 14 seasons as a collegiate
head coach. Blose got her start in coaching just down the road from Lynchburg, at Altavista High School (1984-87). She is 1-13 all-time versus Liberty.
Liberty-UNC Asheville Series Notes
Liberty has won 26 of its last 27 meetings with UNC Asheville, building a 36-7 advantage in the teams’ head-to-head series. The Lady Flames won both contests against the
Bulldogs last season, with each victory coming by exactly 14 points (69-55 at Liberty on
Feb. 9, 2008 and 60-46 at UNC Asheville on March 1, 2008).
UNC Asheville’s most recent victory over Liberty was a 54-51 triumph at the Vines
Center on Feb. 24, 2007. The Bulldogs’ last home win against the Lady Flames came on
Feb. 8, 1997, by a 68-59 score.
Megan Frazee is averaging 18.5 ppg and 11.8 rpg during her career against UNCA.
New Year’s Resolution
Liberty owns a 151-105 all-time record in January contests, after winning its first four
contests of 2009. Head coach Carey Green has gone 67-8 with the Lady Flames during
the year’s opening month, including a 7-0 January last season.
The Lady Flames have won 34 straight home games during the month of January.
Liberty has not lost a January contest at the Vines Center since Jan. 13, 2000, when Elon
dealt the Lady Flames a 77-72 setback.
Liberty has won 13 consecutive January contests overall, since a 64-62 overtime loss
at High Point on Jan. 20, 2007.

Last season, Megan Frazee became the 11th player in program history to score 1,000
career points, eclipsing the magical mark at North Carolina on Dec. 30, 2007. This year,
she could get some company from within her own family. Sister Moriah Frazee enters the
UNC Asheville contest with 992 points, leaving her only eight points shy of 1,000.
The Frazees would not be the first sister duo to score over 1,000 points at Liberty.
Sharon and Sarah Wilkerson, who graduated in 2000, totaled 1,733 and 1,331 points,
respectively.
It is believed that Liberty would be first NCAA Division I women’s basketball program
ever to boast multiple sets of sisters who scored over 1,000 points. Moreover, the Wilkersons were twins and the Frazees are triplets.
Success at the Justice Center
Megan Frazee has been successful during her six career games at the Justice Center, posting four double-doubles and averaging 19.5 ppg and 11.7 rpg. Most memorably,
she hit a shot with 0.3 seconds remaining to win the 2008 Big South championship.
She’s Back!
Senior guard/forward Megan Frazee was sidelined with an ankle injury for eight
games, before returning to action Dec. 29 against North Carolina A&T. In the six games
since Frazee’s return, she is averaging 18.7 ppg and 8.8 rpg and has helped Liberty go
6-0.
Frazee was recognized as Big South Women’s Basketball Player of the Week on Jan.
5, based upon those three performances. A two-time conference player of the week this
season, Frazee was the first Big South player to win the award multiple times in 2008-09.
She is now a 14-time Big South Player of the Week in her career.
We are the Champions!
The Lady Flames defeated Virginia Tech, 45-43, on Dec. 30 at Cassell Coliseum to
win the Hokie Hardwood Classic. Megan Frazee hit the game-winning shot from 18 feet
with just 51 seconds remaining, giving Liberty its first-ever win over the Hokies and preventing Virginia Tech from winning its 11th straight home tournament title.
Frazee was named tournament MVP, marking the fourth tournament MVP trophy she
has won in the last two seasons (also 2007 National City Xavier Invitational, 2007 Lady
Rebel Christmas Classic and 2008 Big South Championship). Avery Warley, who nabbed
29 rebounds in two games at the tournament, also made the all-tournament team.
Spreading the Wealth
Six Lady Flames reached double figures in the scoring column during Liberty’s 92-68
triumph over Saint Paul’s on Dec. 13. Freshman Kylee Beecher led the way with 18 points,
followed by Moriah Frazee (16 points), Avery Warley (13), Danika Dale (12), Kittery Maine
(12) and Amber Mays (10).
Liberty had not featured six double-digit scorers in the same game since Jan. 19,
1987, when Pam Wilder (25 points), Pam Stanfield (14), Harriett Blair (12), Saundra Bridges (11), Annetta Paraham (11) and Sharon Freet (10) accomplished the feat for the Lady
Flames. Their efforts helped Liberty claim a 98-83 home win over Ferrum.
None of Liberty’s double-figure scorers from the Saint Paul’s contest were born on
Jan. 19, 1987. Moriah Frazee was born a little more than two months later, on March 29.
Spreading the Wealth, Part 2
Rebounding played a key role in Liberty’s 72-58 triumph over North Carolina A&T
in the opening round of the Hokie Hardwood Classic on Dec. 29. The Lady Flames outrebounded the Aggies by a 51-31 count, led by three double-digit rebounders. Megan
Frazee snared a game-high 12 rebounds, while Avery Warley corralled 11 boards and
Kylee Beecher came up with 10 caroms.
Liberty had not seen three players grab double-digit rebounds in the same game
since Jan. 31, 1998, during a 79-66 home win over Radford. A Vines Center women’s basketball-record crowd of 5,117 watched Elena Kisseleva tally 15 rebounds, while Kirstyn
Bliss and Sharon Wilkerson rounded up 10 rebounds apiece.

Ice Water Flows Through Her Veins
Sophomore Rachel McLeod has been a clutch free throw shooter for the Lady Flames
this season. Most recently, she drilled four consecutive charity tosses during the final minute of Liberty’s 59-49 win at Presbyterian on Saturday.
McLeod has connected on nine of her 11 foul shot attempts during the final two minutes of games this year, good for an 81.8 percent clip.
Coach Green Versus the Big South
Liberty head coach Carey Green has enjoyed considerable success versus the Big
South during his first nine seasons with the Lady Flames. His teams are 139-13 against
Big South opponents, including 115-12 in the regular season and 24-1 in the Big South
Championship.
Green has never lost to his alma mater, Coastal Carolina (21-0), or Charleston Southern (20-0) during his time at Liberty.
Fabulous Freshman
Freshman post player Kylee Beecher enjoyed the best game of her young collegiate
career, Dec. 13 against Saint Paul’s. She paced the Lady Flames with a career-high 18
points, matching the Roanoke, Va., native’s point total from her first six appearances.
Beecher also contributed six rebounds and a career-best five assists to Liberty’s 92-68
win.
As a result, Beecher was tabbed Big South Women’s Basketball Freshman of the
Week on Dec. 15. She became Liberty’s first Big South Freshman of the Week since current Lady Flame senior Moriah Frazee won the award on Feb. 20, 2006.
Frazee Leading the Way
Megan Frazee paced the Lady Flames with 14 points during Saturday’s victory at
Presbyterian. The senior guard/forward has now paced the team in scoring during all eight
games she has played during the 2008-09 campaign.
Dating back to last season, Frazee has led Liberty’s scoring attack 16 consecutive
times. The last time a different player paced the Lady Flames in points came during the
team’s home win over Coastal Carolina on Feb. 16, 2008. Rebecca Lightfoot’s 13 points
led the way versus the Chanticleers.
Turning Up the Heat in the Furnace
The 2008-09 campaign is the 17th season the Liberty University women’s basketball
team has called the Vines Center its full-time home. Liberty’s first-ever contest at the Vines
Center was an 86-74 loss to East Tennessee State, on Dec. 7, 1990, but the “Furnace”
has served as a favorable venue for the Lady Flames over the years. Liberty is 181-51
(.780) all-time at the Vines Center, including 13-0 last season. The Lady Flames, 3-2 at
the Vines Center in 2008-09, have 12 home games scheduled this season.
Liberty Versus Non-Conference Opposition
The Lady Flames finished 6-7 during the non-conference portion of their 2008-09
slate. Liberty is now 266-292 all-time in non-conference outings.
Last season, Liberty went 15-3 versus non-conference opponents. The Lady Flames
won all six of their non-conference home games in 2007-08.
Liberty’s best-ever season against non-conference foes came in 1997-98, when the
Lady Flames went 14-1 outside the Big South. Liberty’s non-conference setback that season came to national champion Tennessee in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Dial Three Digits for Long Distance
The Lady Flames have been able to continue a long-standing streak, so far this season. The Lady Flames have made at least one three-pointer in a school-record 119 straight
games, a run which began on Feb. 26, 2005. None of the current Lady Flames were in
college when the streak began.
Liberty kept the streak alive on Saturday, when four of the Lady Flames’ five starters
(Megan Frazee, Moriah Frazee, Rachel Hammond and Amber Mays) made triples.

Longest-Tenured Assistant Coaches
The 2008-09 season is Heather Stephens’ sixth campaign as an assistant on Carey
Green’s coaching staff. She is now tied with Jeri (Wiley) Porter as the longest-tenured
assistant coach in Liberty women’s basketball history. Porter is now the head coach at
George Mason. The Lady Flames have gone 132-43 and won four Big South titles during
Stephens’ tenure and made the “Sweet 16” of the 2005 NCAA Tournament.

Lady Flames Excel in the Classroom
Liberty has received national recognition numerous times for its work in the classroom. Last season, the Lady Flames tallied a 3.354 GPA, ranking 14th in the Women’s
Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Top 25 Team Honor Roll.
It was the third straight season and the fifth time in program history that Liberty has
been included in the Top 25 Team Honor Roll. The Lady Flames were listed a programbest seventh in 2006-07 and tied for 14th in 2005-06. Liberty was rated 13th in 1999-2000,
which was Carey Green’s first season as head coach, and came in 12th during the 199899 campaign.
Liberty was one of only three teams to be included in last season’s WBCA Top 25
Honor Roll and play in the NCAA Tournament, joining Kansas State and New Mexico.

Redshirt freshman Avery Warley has been controlling the glass for the Lady Flames,
since returning to campus after Christmas break. She has totaled 63 rebounds in the last
six contests, averaging 10.5 rpg, including a career-high 18 boards versus Virginia Tech
on Dec. 30. Warley has been active at both ends of the floor, as 28 of her caroms have
come off the offensive glass.
One of Warley’s most important rebounds came during the closing stages of Liberty’s
Jan. 10 win at Winthrop. With the score knotted at 49-all, Warley snared an offensive rebound and converted a layup, giving her team the lead for good with just 30.0 seconds left
on the clock.
It was also Warley’s offensive rebound off a missed free throw that set the stage for
Megan Frazee’s game-winning jumper, Dec. 30 at Virginia Tech.
Warley currently ranks second in the Big South Conference, with a season average of
8.4 rpg.
Start Me Up
Head coach Carey Green used only four different starting lineups in Liberty’s 32
games last season. The most common starting five consisted of Allyson Fasnacht, Courtney Watkins, Megan Frazee, Rebecca Lightfoot and Moriah Frazee. The unit went 18-2 in
its 20 games as a starting unit.
This year, Liberty has already used five different starting lineups in the first 16 games
of the season. Moriah Frazee, Rachel Hammond and Avery Warley have been the only
three Lady Flames to start every contest.
The Lady Flames’ most recent lineup, consisting of Moriah Frazee, Hammond, Warley, Amber Mays and Megan Frazee, is a perfect 6-0.
Counting Up the Votes
Liberty was listed among the “Others Receiving Votes” in the Nov. 25 ESPN/USA
Today Coaches Top 25 poll, for the third straight week, receiving one vote.
Last season, the Lady Flames regularly received votes in both national polls, but did
not quite crack the Top 25. Liberty’s most recent Top 25 ranking came in the final ESPN/
USA Today Coaches poll of the 2004-05 season. The Lady Flames were listed No. 21,
after reaching the “Sweet 16” of the NCAA Tournament.
Winning Streaks in Abundance
Liberty has won six consecutive games, entering tonight’s game at UNC Asheville.
The winning streak is the Lady Flames’ longest of the season, but such streaks are nothing new for head coach Carey Green.
The Lady Flames have posted a winning streak of at least six games every season
since Green took over as head coach, except for the 2006-07 campaign. Liberty’s current
winning skein is its 13th streak of at least six consecutive wins under Green’s direction.
Lack of Overtime
Liberty has played only one overtime game in its last 162 outings, a 64-62 setback at
High Point on Jan. 20, 2007.
The Lady Flames’ most recent overtime victory came on Jan. 6, 2004, when Liberty
defeated American, 76-72, on the road in double overtime. No current Lady Flame has
won an overtime contest in college.
Liberty’s most recent overtime contest at the Vines Center was a memorable one. The
Lady Flames defeated Virginia, 77-69, in overtime on Nov. 26, 2002, to claim their firstever win over the Cavaliers. It also marked Liberty’s first win over a ranked opponent, as
Virginia entered the game with a No. 25 national ranking.
The Container is Half Full
Liberty connected on a season-high 55.7 percent (34-of-61) of its field goal attempts
against Saint Paul’s on Dec. 13, leading to a 92-68 victory.
The Lady Flames went 9-0 last season when shooting 50 percent or higher. Liberty is
now 50-0 in such contests under head coach Carey Green.

Liberty ranks only eighth in the Big South for steals, averaging 7.6 thefts per contest.
However, the Lady Flames have been very active on defense in the last three contests.
Liberty has averaged 12.3 spg during the stretch, tying a season high with 17 thefts versus
East Tennessee State on Jan. 13.
Liberty’s 17 steals on Jan. 13 was the most steals by the Lady Flames against a Division I opponent since coming up with 17 thefts against Charleston Southern on Feb. 19,
2007.
Chief Thiefs
Starting guards Amber Mays and Rachel Hammond have led the way for the Lady
Flames’ surge in steals, as they rank sixth and seventh, respectively, on the Big South
steals leaderboard.
Mays has notched 14 steals in the past three games, including a career-high eightsteal effort versus East Tennessee State on Jan. 13. Her eight steals were the most by a
Lady Flame since Sharon Wilkerson recorded eight thefts at High Point on Feb. 21, 2000.
Mays ties for the fifth-most steals in a single game in Liberty history.
Meanwhile, Hammond has been a consistent disruptive force on defense this season,
tallying multiple steals in 10 of the first 16 games. As a result, the senior has already established a career high with 31 steals.
Triple the Trouble
Liberty sports the only set of triplets currently playing for the same NCAA Division
I women’s basketball team--seniors Megan, Molly and Moriah Frazee. Career totals of
1,000 points and 500 rebounds represent a very solid collegiate performer. The Frazee
triplets have averaged more than 1,000 points and 500 rebounds between them.
During Liberty’s Jan. 3 victory over Gardner-Webb, the triplets exceeded the 3,000-career point total. Megan, Molly and Moriah Frazee have totaled 3,108 points and 1,622 rebounds during their four spectacular years at Liberty.
Miss Consistency
Megan Frazee has scored in double figures in each of her last 52 games, dating back
to Jan. 27, 2007. It is the longest such streak of her career and the longest by a Liberty
player since Elena Kisseleva tallied 10 or more points in 62 straight contests, spanning the
1996-97, 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons.
Frazee has only scored nine or fewer points on four occasions at Liberty, and has
never done so in consecutive outings.
Clamping Down on Defense
The Lady Flames have held 67 consecutive opponents under 50 percent field goal
shooting. The last Liberty foe to sink more than half of its field goal attempts was Marist,
at the Maryland Terrapin Classic on Dec. 29, 2006.
Liberty is off to a good start defensively in 2008-09. Eleven of the Lady Flames’ first
16 opponents, including the last six in a row, have shot below 40 percent from the floor.
Liberty ranks second in the Big South with a .357 opponents field goal percentage.
The Lady Flames are 9-2 this season when their opponents shoot under 40 percent
from the field, but 0-5 when their foes make at least 40 percent of their field goal tries.
Nearing a Big South Milestone
Megan Frazee has totaled 777 career rebounds, leaving her just 15 boards shy of a
spot among the Big South’s all-time top 10 rebounders. Frazee would become the third
Lady Flame within the top 10, joining Katie Feenstra (second place) and Elena Kisseleva
(sixth place).
A Short Commute
Freshman guard Brittany Campbell attended high school literally right down the street
from Liberty University at Brookville High School. She is the first Lynchburg-area player to
suit up for the Lady Flames since Tekita Butler in the 2002-03 season.

International Flavor
The addition of Tokyo, Japan native Jessica Nelson to the Lady Flames’ roster gives
Liberty an international player for the 15th consecutive season. The last time the Lady
Flames’ roster consisted solely of American-born players was the 1993-94 campaign. Every Carey Green-coached team at Liberty has featured at least one international player.
A Clutch Performer
Megan Frazee drained a game-winning 18-foot jumper with 51 seconds left on Dec.
30 at Virginia Tech, representing her third game-winning shot in the senior’s last 10 appearances. Frazee also defeated Radford (March 16, 2008 - Big South Championship)
and UC Riverside (Nov. 21, 2008 - Preseason WNIT) with close-range field goals in the
final seconds.
In Good Company
On Jan. 5, Megan Frazee was honored as Big South Women’s Basketball Player of
the Week. It was the second time the senior has captured the award this season and was
her 14th career weekly conference honor.
Only former Liberty standout Katie Feenstra has collected more Big South Women’s
Basketball Player of the Week awards in conference history. Feenstra finished her Liberty
career with 15 weekly plaques.
Cranking Up the Defense
Liberty has played exceptional defense during its current six-game winning streak.
The Lady Flames have held North Carolina A&T, Virginia Tech and Gardner-Webb all to
season-low point totals during the stretch. Liberty’s six foes have scored only 49.5 ppg
against Liberty and have combined to shoot just 32.6 percent from the field.
Winning the Battle of the Boards
The Lady Flames have outrebounded 12 teams in their first 16 games of the season. Only three teams (Western Carolina, James Madison and Winthrop) have won the
rebounding battle against Liberty this season, as the Lady Flames lead the Big South
Conference with a +8.8 rebounding margin.
Liberty, which currently ranks No. 20 nationally for rebounding margin, has finished in
the top five in the category for five consecutive seasons. The Lady Flames led the nation
in rebounding margin during both the 2003-04 and 2004-05 campaigns.
Coming Through in the Clutch
With Liberty’s 55-51 win at Winthrop on Jan. 10, the Lady Flames improved to 3-2
this season, in games decided by five points or less. Two of Liberty’s last five games have
been tight victories, as the Lady Flames also pulled out a 45-43 win at Virginia Tech on
Dec. 30.
Last season, Liberty excelled in tight situations, winning five of its seven contests
decided by five points or less. The Lady Flames’ close victories included the championship games of the National City Xavier Invitational, Lady Rebel Christmas Classic and Big
South Championship.
Down, But Not Out
On Jan. 13, East Tennessee State ran out to an early seven-point advantage at the
Vines Center, before Liberty rallied for a 64-54 win. It was the fifth time the Lady Flames
have erased a six-point deficit to win this season (also UC Riverside, North Carolina A&T,
Virginia Tech and Winthrop).
Liberty’s largest rally of the season came on Dec. 30, in the Hokie Hardwood Classic
title game against Virginia Tech. The Hokies led by eight points midway through the second half, but the Lady Flames came back to notch a 45-43 triumph.
Less Than a Point Per Minute
Presbyterian managed only 19 first-half points against the Lady Flames on Saturday.
Liberty has held three opponents to fewer than 20 points during the opening half this season, including Gardner-Webb, which scored only 14 points prior to the break on Jan. 3.

Liberty battled back from a 21-4 deficit in
its season opener to take a pair of secondhalf leads. However, visiting VCU edged
the Lady Flames, 59-57, in a first-round
Preseason WNIT contest, as Radoslava
Bachvarova drained three free throws with
just 2.1 seconds left. VCU tallied the evening’s first 12 points, before Megan Frazee
canned a one-handed floater from six feet,
at the 14:10 mark of the opening half. The
Rams later notched nine straight points,
bolstering their advantage to 21-4 at 10:48.
Liberty limited VCU to one field goal over the
final 4:20 of the opening stanza, running off
an 11-2 surge in the meantime and closing
the gap to 31-27 at the intermission. Megan
Frazee finally gave Liberty its initial lead of
the contest, 45-44, draining a three-pointer
from the right wing at the 11:02 mark. The
Lady Flames’ next lead did not come until
4:30 remained on the game clock, when Megan Frazee found Avery Warley for an open
layup. Warley’s basket was part of a 7-0
Liberty burst. Megan Frazee’s reverse layup
at 3:11 capped the run, increasing the Lady
Flames’ lead to 54-51. VCU came back to tie
things up again, 54-54, when Quanitra Hollingsworth split a pair of free throws with 2:18
remaining, setting the stage for a frenetic final minute of play. Mays put Liberty on top,
56-54, with a driving layup at the 44-second
mark, before Hollingsworth answered with a
hoop from in close, 10 seconds later. Warley went to the free throw line on the Lady
Flames’ ensuing possession, splitting a pair
of free throws with 6.4 seconds remaining.
Her connection briefly put Liberty in front,
57-56, before Bachvarova’s clutch charity
tosses for the Rams.

Megan Frazee banked in a layup from the
left side of the lane as the buzzer sounded,
giving the Lady Flames a thrilling, 45-44 win
over UC Riverside in a Preseason WNIT
consolation contest at the Ramsey Center in
Cullowhee, N.C. The Highlanders had taken
a 44-43 advantage with just 3.3 seconds left,
when Alyssa Morris made a tightly-contested
three-pointer from the right wing. Her hoop
capped a 9-0 UC Riverside surge, consisting
solely of triples. UC Riverside appeared to
seal its first victory of the year, when Roney
Friend intercepted Liberty’s inbounds pass
with 0.9 ticks remaining. However, Friend
shuffled her feet, giving the Lady Flames
one final opportunity, with the ball out of
bounds under the basket. Rachel Hammond
bounced the inbounds pass to a cutting
Frazee, who calmly sank the game-winning
shot from close range. Liberty notched the
evening’s first seven points, keeping the
Highlanders off the scoreboard for the first
5:29 of play. The game was deadlocked at
15 apiece, before the Highlanders suffered
another extended scoring drought. Liberty
kept UC Riverside scoreless for 4:19, reeling
off seven consecutive points in the meantime. Amber Mays split a pair of free throws
2:25 before halftime, giving the Lady Flames
a 22-15 edge. Liberty led 22-17 at the intermission. It was UC Riverside which opened
the second half on a roll. The Highlanders
recorded the first nine points of the stanza.
Tainoisouti Lott’s layup at the 15:53 mark
increased UC Riverside’s first advantage of
the contest to 26-22. Four straight tallies by
Friend boosted the Highlanders to their largest lead , 32-26, with 12:26 showing on the
second-half clock. Liberty later went back on
top with a 13-0 run between UC Riverside
hoops. Mays’ pair of free throws made the
score 43-35, Liberty, with 4:10 remaining.

The Western Carolina Catamounts fashioned a 16-0 run, spanning the first and
second halves, boosting them to a 73-53
victory over Liberty, Saturday evening at the
Ramsey Center. The triumph gave Western
Carolina the championship of this four-team
Preseason WNIT consolation bracket. Both
teams got off to a slow start at the offensive
end. When the buzzer sounded for the contest’s first media timeout at 14:42, the homestanding Catamounts owned a 5-2 advantage. Liberty did not get on the scoreboard
until the 15:30 mark, when Hammond sank
a layup. Western Carolina’s edge bulged to
six points, 16-10, after Brooke Johnson’s
layup 9:54 before the half. The Lady Flames
then knotted the game at 16-16 with six consecutive markers. A Brittany Campbell threepointer from the right corner, marking her
first collegiate points, evened the score at
7:58. However, Liberty only made one more
basket during the remainder of the opening
stanza, Moriah Frazee’s first triple of the
season. The Catamounts closed the half on
an 8-0 surge, taking a 30-19 advantage into
the locker room. The Catamounts notched
the first eight tallies of the second half, including a pair of three-pointers, extending
their overall run to 16-0 and their lead to
38-19. Liberty trimmed its deficit to 13 points,
42-29, with 14:15 remaining. Rachel Hammond contributed four points to the Lady
Flames’ 6-0 run. The red-clad Lady Flames
got to within 47-37 at 10:11, after another 6-0
surge, capped by consecutive Avery Warley
layups. Liberty was unable to shave the lead
to single digits, though, and the hot-shooting
Catamounts pulled away during the final 10
minutes.

A late 13-2 run enabled Hartford to emerge
victorious from its defensive struggle with
Liberty. The Hawks prevailed by a 46-39
count in the opening game of the GW
Thanksgiving Classic, at the Smith Center
in Washington, D.C. Liberty tallied eight of
the contest’s first 11 points over the opening
4:43 of play. Rachel McLeod provided six of
the Lady Flames’ markers, including a short
baseline jumper at 15:17 which put Liberty
on top, 8-3. The Lady Flames managed only
two points during the next 8:55. During the
meantime, Hartford tallied 13 markers, building its initial lead of the game to 16-10 on
Lisa Etienne’s pair of free throws, 6:32 before
halftime. Liberty quickly leveled the score at
16-16, by scoring on each of its next three
possessions. Avery Warley contributed four
points to the Lady Flames’ 6-0 burst, tying
the score with her putback with 5:05 showing
on the first-half clock. The Lady Flames kept
the Hawks off the scoreboard for the final
2:58 of the opening stanza. Liberty recorded
the half’s last four points during Hartford’s
drought, taking a 22-20 lead into the locker
room.Hartford emerged from halftime with a
10-0 surge. Amanda Weaver’s layup at 12:50
capped the run, giving the Hawks their largest advantage up to that point, 30-22. Brittany Campbell then posted five points and an
assist during a 9-0 surge, which put Liberty
back on top. Amber Mays finished off the run
with two free throws at the 8:15 mark, making the score 31-30, Liberty. Shortly thereafter, MaryLynne Schaefer keyed Hartford’s

nine three-pointers, pushing them past Liberty, 65-61, in the GW Thanksgiving Classic consolation game at the Smith Center
in Washington, D.C. Amber Mays, later
named to the all-tournament team, opened
the game’s scoring by canning a pair of lefthanded layups in the first 1:36 of play, staking
the Lady Flames to an early 4-0 lead.South
Alabama answered with five straight markers, claiming its first advantage, 5-4, when
Shakira Nettles made two free throws at
16:30. The Jaguars’ Karina Sproal tallied five
points in a row, opening up a bit of breathing room for her team. Her long three-pointer
at the 8:20 mark pushed South Alabama’s
edge to 18-14. South Alabama did not trail
again until only 1:48 remained in the stanza,
when Rachel McLeod went two-for-two from
the foul line for the Lady Flames, putting
her team in front, 29-27. The sophomore’s
free throws finished a 6-0 Liberty run. Liberty took a 31-30 lead into the locker room.
Back-to-back triples initiated an 8-0 burst by
the Jaguars, early in the second half. Brittney Rutledge’s long jumper from the corner
with 17:53 remaining closed the run with
South Alabama owning a 38-32 edge. Moriah Frazee made both the first and the last
baskets of Liberty’s ensuing 8-0 surge. Her
layup from the right block reclaimed the lead
for the Lady Flames, 40-38, with 14:05 showing on the second-half clock. South Alabama
bounced right back, and gained a four-point
lead, 50-46, on Siedah Banks’ old-fashioned
three-point play at 7:48. Liberty could get no
closer than two for the remainder of the contest. South Alabama sealed its win by sinking
five of six foul shots in the final minute.

Rebounding and stellar free throw shooting down the stretch enabled the James
Madison Dukes to claim a 77-64 victory
over Liberty at the JMU Convocation Center. Back-to-back baskets by JMU’s Dawn
Evans, the nation’s leading scorer entering
the contest, finished an 8-0 Dukes run. The
surge built the home team’s early lead to
nine points, 17-8. The Lady Flames clawed
back to within three points, 21-18, after Moriah Frazee’s three-pointer at the 9:43 mark
punctuated Liberty’s 5-0 run. Evans nailed
a triple on the Dukes’ ensuing possession,
beginning a 9-3 surge by the home squad.
Sarah Williams’ layup closed the run, boosting her team’s advantage back up to 30-21,
with 6:39 on the clock. Liberty took its first
lead since 4-2, when Moriah Frazee’s hoop
at 1:29 capped an 11-0 Lady Flames run.
Her connection made the score 38-36, Liberty. JMU then tallied the stanza’s final three
points, taking a 39-38 advantage into the
locker room. Liberty opened the second half
by scoring four points in the first 47 seconds.
The Lady Flames reclaimed the edge, 4239, after Moriah Frazee’s pair of made charity tosses. James Madison quickly bounced
back with six consecutive markers of its own.
The Dukes went ahead once again, 47-44,
on Evans’ three-pointer with 15:13 left. The
Dukes’ edge ballooned to nine, 56-47, after
a run of seven consecutive points. Moriah
Frazee’s second three-pointer of the game,
at 6:43, trimmed JMU’s lead to six, 60-54.
However, that was Liberty’s last made field
goal for the next five minutes. During the
Lady Flames’ drought, the Dukes put together a 10-2 surge. Another Evans triple, with
just 2:28 remaining, gave JMU its largest

An 11-0, late second-half run helped No.
13/14 Auburn to pull away from Liberty in a
tightly-played contest. The Tigers were able
to remain undefeated on the season with a
64-53 triumph over the Lady Flames. Lady
Flame Amber Mays came up with four steals
during the game’s first five minutes. Two of
her thefts came during a 10-0 Liberty surge,
which turned a 7-5 deficit into a 15-7 advantage, at 14:08. Liberty’s edge eventually
reached 10 points, 23-13, after Kittery Maine
put back her own missed shot, 10:54 before
the intermission. The Tigers’ defense then
kept Liberty off the scoreboard for nearly
seven minutes, while Auburn reeled off a
15-0 run. Alli Smalley, who hit a pair of threepointers during the surge, capped the burst
with a made jumper at 5:05. Her connection
lifted Auburn to a 28-23 edge. The Lady
Flames bounced right back, fashioning a
10-2 spurt. Moriah Frazee notched five of the
run’s points, and the senior’s old-fashioned
three-point play with 55 seconds remaining
put Liberty up, 33-30. Liberty took a 33-32
lead into the break. Rachel Hammond’s
layup with 17:28 showing on the second-half
clock increased the Liberty advantage to 3733. The Lady Flames were still in front, 4139, after another Hammond basket, coming
at the 14:11 mark. However, those were Liberty’s last points for 9:23. In the meantime,
Auburn crafted its previously mentioned
11-0 surge. Sherell Hobbs tallied five points
during the run, which increased the Tigers’
lead to 50-41. Danika Dale canned a threepointer on Liberty’s next possession, ending
the drought and trimming the Lady Flames’
deficit to six, 50-44. It was close as Liberty
would get for the remainder of the contest,
though, as Auburn put the Lady Flames
away by hitting nine-of-12 free throws during
the last 1:32.
Game 8
Lynchburg, Va.
A 22-1, early second-half run broke open
a close game, propelling Liberty to a 92-68
victory over Commonwealth foe Saint Paul’s.
Six Lady Flames scored in double figures,
helping Liberty snap a five-game losing skid.
The two teams went back and forth several
times in the early going, before Liberty built
its first double-digit lead of the afternoon with
a 10-2 surge. Kittery Maine provided six of
the Lady Flames’ points during the run, including a layup at 8:56, which pushed the
home team’s edge to 21-10. Shortly thereafter, Saint Paul’s responded with a 12-2 run,
trimming its deficit to a single point. Johnson
went six-for-six from the free-throw line during the span, and her pair of free throws
made the score 26-25, Liberty, 4:04 before halftime. The Lady Flames’ advantage
climbed back to eight points, before Liberty
claimed a 36-32 halftime lead. The Lady
Tigers had trimmed Liberty’s lead to 38-37
on Johnson’s layup at the 18:13 mark of the
second half, before suffering an offensive
drought. Saint Paul’s did not make another
field goal for 4:50, enabling Liberty to reel off
its aforementioned 22-1 burst. Amber Mays
contributed seven points to the Liberty run,
and Beecher’s second old-fashioned threepoint play of the surge bolstered the Lady
Flame advantage to 60-38 with 13:30 left.
The visiting Lady Tigers would get no closer
than 19 points down for the remainder of
the afternoon. Meanwhile, Liberty’s edge
reached 30 on three occasions, as the Lady
Flames finished with a season-high point total in their 92-68 triumph. Head coach Carey
Green’s squad was efficient at the offensive
end, sinking 63.6 percent (21-of-33) of its
field goal attempts after the intermission.

Gaines Center. As a result, the Lady Flames
opened the half with a 26-9 surge, overcoming a one-point halftime deficit to win, 55-43.
Winston-Salem State made its first two threepointers of the contest, while Liberty utilized
its size advantage. The Lady Flames owned
a 9-6 lead at the 14:59 mark, scoring all nine
of their points inside the paint and free-throw
line. The Lady Rams briefly reclaimed the
advantage, 13-12, after a MaLisa Bumpus
three-pointer, 9:32 before halftime. Liberty
then clamped down on defense, limiting
Winston-Salem State to a single field goal
over the next five minutes. In the meantime,
the Lady Flames reeled off an 8-2 surge, featuring a pair of Amber Mays layups. Rachel
McLeod nailed both ends of a one-and-one
at 5:01. Her second charity toss gave Liberty
its largest lead of the opening half, 20-15.
The Lady Rams closed out the stanza by tallying 10 of the final 14 markers. A Bumpus
jumper with 1:20 left sent her team into the
locker room in front by a single point, 25-24.
Hammond drained a three-pointer on Liberty’s opening possession of the second half,
giving the Lady Flames a lead they would not
relinquish. Her hoop was part of a half-opening 7-0 run by the Lady Flames. Rene Rector then nailed two three-pointers in 44 seconds for Winston-Salem State. Her second
triple, with 16:05 remaining in the contest,
trimmed her team’s deficit to 33-31. Hammond made two more three-pointers during
Liberty’s ensuing 10-0 surge, bolstering the

early in the first half of its contest against
Liberty at Memorial Gymnasium. The Commodores then fought off numerous Lady
Flame comeback attempts, claiming a 67-50
triumph. The Lady Flames got off to a fast
start, jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the first
minute, as Hammond swished a three-pointer and Avery Warley scored on a putback.
Jennifer Risper’s basket was part of an
18-0 Vanderbilt run. Tia Gibbs scored seven
points during the surge, which concluded
with a Hannah Tuomi basket from the paint
at 10:28. Her connection increased the home
team’s advantage to 23-8. A Moriah Frazee
layup with 2:38 on the first-half clock, part
of a 7-0 Liberty run, cut the Lady Flames’
deficit to 30-18. The Commodores rebuilt
a 17-point advantage, 38-21, at halftime.
Vanderbilt’s initial 20-point point lead of the
game came at 41-21, when Risper converted an offensive rebound into two points, just
1:43 into the second half. The Lady Flames
roared back with a 9-0 burst over the next
2:15. Hammond bookended the run with
a triple and a fast-break jumper. Her latter
hoop, coming with 16:02 left, brought Liberty
to within 41-30. The Lady Flames still trailed
by 11 points, before Vanderbilt opened up
a bit more breathing room with 19-4 surge
over the next 7:37 of action The Commodores’ lead reached a game-high 26 points,
64-38, on a Christina Wirth second-chance
hoop with 5:19 left. The Lady Flames then
reeled off a 10-0 run, started off on consecutive triples by Hammond and Amber Mays.

Megan Frazee, returning to the Liberty lineup after an ankle injury had sidelined her for
eight straight contests, tallied 19 points and
10 rebounds after halftime, against North
Carolina A&T. Her performance lifted the
Lady Flames to a 72-58 win in the opening game of the Hokie Hardwood Classic.
North Carolina A&T recorded an 8-0 burst to
claim an early 13-8 lead. The Aggies’ edge
reached seven points, 21-14, when Brittanie Taylor-James swished a jumper from
just inside the three-point arc, 8:30 before
halftime. Liberty gradually chipped away at
its disadvantage, and Amber Mays’ charity
toss at 1:52 provided the Lady Flames with
their first lead since 8-5, at 27-26. The teams
exchanged the advantage three times during
the remainder of the opening stanza, before
heading to the locker room deadlocked at
31. North Carolina A&T put together an 8-2
surge, early in the second half. Taylor-James
capped the run with a long jumper, giving
her team a 39-35 edge with 15:14 remaining. Liberty battled back to tie the game at
44 apiece, on another Hammond layup, before one play shifted the game’s momentum
significantly. Lamona Smalley was called
for both her fourth foul and a technical foul
at 10:59. Megan Frazee stepped to the line
for a quartet of foul shots. Frazee made all
four tries, giving Liberty an edge it never relinquished, 48-44. Shortly thereafter, Liberty
took control of the contest with a 10-0 burst.

Blacksburg, Va.
Tournament MVP Megan Frazee drilled
the game-winning shot from just inside the
three-point arc with 51 seconds remaining in
the Hokie Hardwood Classic championship
contest. Her last-minute heroics lifted Liberty
to a hard-fought 45-43 win over host Virginia
Tech, giving the Lady Flames the tournament
title and their first-ever win over the Hokies.
The Commonwealth foes were deadlocked
at 43-43 when Megan Frazee stepped to the
foul line for a one-and-one with 1:04 remaining in the contest. The senior missed the
front end, but Warley was there to snatch
her 18th rebound. Thirteen seconds later,
Rachel McLeod found Frazee for the gamewinning hoop. Virginia Tech’s Laura Haskins
had two chances to knot the contest in the
final 38 seconds, but Liberty hung on for a
long-awaited win over the Hokies. The teams
traded the lead 11 times during an evenlyplayed opening half, and neither team led
by more than three points. The Hokies’
Lindsay Biggs drilled a three-pointer from
well beyond the arc as the first-half buzzer
sounded, giving her team a 24-23 halftime
edge. Liberty did not score for a 6:32 span
of the second half, enabling Virginia Tech
to reel off an 8-0 surge. Shanel Harrison’s
steal and fast break layup at the 13:26 mark
gave the Hokies their largest lead of the contest, 37-29. Virginia Tech then experienced
its own extended offensive drought, going
8:16 without a point. In the meantime. Liberty reclaimed the lead with a 10-0 run, as
Warley’s putback hoop with 6:45 left in the
contest put the Lady Flames back in front,
39-37. Liberty’s lead was short-lived, however, as Biggs nailed her fourth triple 1:25
later, giving Virginia Tech a 40-39 advantage.
A McLeod mid-range jumper and two Megan
Frazee charity tosses swung the lead back
in Liberty’s favor, 43-40. Utahya Drye then
converted an old-fashioned three-point play
with 1:28 remaining, knotting the score at
43-all and setting the stage for Frazee’s third
game-winning shot in her last six appearances, dating back to last season.

Liberty broke open a close game against
Gardner-Webb with a 18-2 run spanning the
first and second halves. The Lady Flames
went on to hand the Bulldogs a 55-42 setback in Gardner-Webb’s first-ever Big South
contest and the conference opener for both
squads. The score was deadlocked at 8-8
early on, before Liberty fashioned an 8-0
burst. Megan Frazee tossed in the final
five points of the Lady Flame run, lifting the
home team’s lead to 16-8 at the 9:52 mark.
A Margaret Roundtree jumper from the paint,
this one coming at 4:38, narrowed the visitors’ deficit to 18-14. The Lady Flames then
closed the stanza on a 9-0 run. Moriah
Frazee initiated the surge with five straight
points, and Megan Frazee ended the half’s
scoring with a layup, sending Liberty to the
locker room with a 27-14 advantage. Warley
scored the second half’s first two baskets,
helping Liberty begin the stanza on a 9-2
run. Megan Frazee’s hoop at 16:17 pushed
the Lady Flames’ lead to 36-16, finishing off
an overall surge of 18-2, which started in
the first half. Soon thereafter, the Bulldogs
crafted their best extended run of the evening. The Lady Flames did not score for
5:03, as Gardner-Webb posted a 10-0 burst
to trim its deficit in half. Meranda Burnett’s
mid-range jumper with 6:42 left put her team
back within 10, at 40-30. Freshman Kylee
Beecher halted the Gardner-Webb run with
a free throw on Liberty’s next possession,
and the Bulldogs were never able to cut their
deficit to single digits. Rachel McLeod put
the finishing touches on Liberty’s 55-42 decision, connecting on a driving layup with 14
seconds remaining.

Trailing by six points with less than five
minutes remaining at Winthrop, Liberty responded with a game-ending 14-4 run to
pull out a hard-fought 55-51 victory. Avery
Warley’s putback with 30.0 seconds left
gave the Lady Flames the lead for good in
their fourth straight win. Winthrop owned
a 47-41 advantage at the 4:53 mark of the
second half, before Liberty began chipping
away at its deficit. Megan Frazee swished a
three-pointer from the right wing off an outof-bounds play and Amber Mays followed
with a mid-range jumper on Liberty’s next
possession, enabling the Lady Flames to
level the score at 49-all with 2:11 remaining. The score was still deadlocked in the
final minute, when Warley tracked down
her own missed shot and banked it home
for the go-ahead hoop. On Winthrop’s next
possession, an aggressive double team
forced a turnover. Liberty was then able to
finish off its road win with four straight made
free throws by Rachel McLeod and Megan
Frazee, sandwiching a Yvonne van Daalen
layup. Winthrop had fashioned the game’s
first extended run, as Jessica Fansler’s
three-pointer capped a 9-2 surge, boosting
the Eagles’ lead to 12-8 at the 11:09 mark.
Liberty later erased its deficit with a 13-1 run,
including nine points by Megan Frazee. Her
old-fashioned three-point play with only 7.7
seconds remaining in the half finished off the
surge with the Lady Flames owning a 29-24
advantage. Jennifer Walker canned a layup
as the first-half buzzer sounded, pulling the
homestanding Eagles to within three, 29-26,
at the intermission. Winthrop gradually built
its aforementioned six points lead, before
going nearly five minutes without a field goal
at the end of the game. The Eagles’ offensive drought enabled Liberty to initiate its
decisive comeback.

Game 15
Lynchburg, Va.
Liberty closed the first half with a 15-0 run,
Tuesday evening at the Vines Center, propelling the Lady Flames to a 64-54 victory
over East Tennessee State. Liberty scored
on its opening possession of the evening,
when Avery Warley nailed a shot from the
paint. However, the Lady Flames did not
score again until Megan Frazee’s layup, 4:45
later. In the meantime, East Tennessee State
reeled off nine consecutive points. Back-toback layups by Latisha Belcher finished off
the run, putting the Lady Buccaneers in front
by a 9-2 margin at the 14:32 mark. Liberty responded with a 9-0 surge of its own, ending
with Rachel Hammond’s mid-range jumper
at 10:06, which reclaimed the lead for the
Lady Flames, 11-9. The game continued to
swing back and forth, as a 12-4 surge by the
visitors resulted in a 24-20 East Tennessee
State lead. TaRonda Wiles tossed in the last
five points of the Lady Buccaneers’ extended
run, including a triple from the corner at 5:01.
Those would be East Tennessee State’s final points of the opening stanza, however,
as Liberty closed the half on a 15-0 run. Five
Liberty steals keyed the surge, which was
highlighted by Mays’ four points and two
thefts. The Lady Flames owned a 35-24 halftime advantage, after Rachel McLeod closed
the half’s scoring with a layup at the 25-second mark. A pair of triples early in the second
half enabled East Tennessee State to trim
its deficit to seven points, 37-30, with 16:27
remaining. Liberty’s lead fluctuated between
six and 10 points until Tara Davis hit two free
throws at the 10:30 mark, bringing her team
to within 46-41. The Lady Flames quickly
responded with their second 9-0 burst of
the evening, initiated by a three-pointer and
putback by Megan Frazee. Mays later converted her eighth steal into a fast break layup
at 8:21, capping the run with Liberty leading,
55-41. Liberty’s lead remained in double figures for the remainder of the contest, as the
Lady Flames closed out a 64-54 win.
Game 16
Clinton, S.C.
Presbyterian battled Liberty closely throughout much of the two teams’ contest at Templeton Arena. However, the Lady Flames
opened the second half with a 15-2 run, and
went on to claim their sixth-straight victory,
59-49. Presbyterian did not make its first
field goal of the game until 11:37 showed
on the first-half clock. The contest-opening
drought by the Blue Hose enabled Liberty to
build an early 11-4 advantage. Liberty’s lead
reached double digits for the first time at the
10:43 mark, when Moriah Frazee drilled a
three-pointer from the top of the key to make
it 16-6, Liberty. Frazee’s triple closed out an
11-2 Lady Flame run. Liberty’s lead stood
at eight, before homestanding Presbyterian
closed the opening half on a 7-0 surge. A
Katlin Moore three-pointer with 15 seconds
remaining wrapped up the run, sending the
Blue Hose into the locker room with just a
one-point deficit, 20-19. Taking advantage of
a loose zone defense by Presbyterian, Liberty connected on three triples during a 15-2
burst to open the second half, with Rachel
Hammond hitting two of the three-pointers.
Amber Mays’ steal and resulting fast break
layup at 14:42 finished off the half-opening
run, giving Liberty a 35-21 edge. Amanda
Mills tossed in seven points during a 10-2 run
by the Blue Hose, which ended with a Moore
free throw at the 9:53 mark. Moore’s point
brought her team to within 39-33. A quick
5-0 Liberty spurt, capped by Megan Frazee’s
second three-pointer, rebuilt a double-digit
lead for the Lady Flames, 46-35, with 7:21
left. Presbyterian got not closer than seven
points down for the rest of the contest.
