Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. Eastern at venerable Memorial Gymnasium, where the Commodores have won all seven of their games this season. What to Watch A Liberty victory over Vanderbilt on Monday would be the Lady Flames’ first win over a SEC opponent since 1998 and their first triumph over a nationally-ranked foe since the 2005 NCAA Tournament. The Commodores enjoy a unique home court advantage at Memorial Gymnasium, as the teams’ benches are located on the baselines instead of the sidelines, and the playing surface is raised up like a stage. Vanderbilt has won more than 81 percent of its home games at the facility in program history. Lady Flames On The Air All Lady Flames basketball games may be heard LIVE on WWMC 90.9 FM “The Light.” Jamie Hall, celebrating his 15th year of broadcasting Lady Flames basketball, will once again be handling the courtside play-by-play duties for most road games. Josh Wood will serve as the commentator for home contests and will provide color analysis on the road. Lady Flames On TV For the sixth season in a row, the Flames Television Network (FTN) plans to broadcast all 12 home women’s basketball games. FTN’s regular announcing team will consist of Ray Jones on play-by-play and Jamie Hall on color. His teams have averaged more than 23 victories per year during his time at Liberty, putting his name alongside the nation’s premier women’s basketball coaches. Green has accumulated a 216-74 record on the Liberty bench, good for a winning percentage of .745. He entered the season ranked 10th among active NCAA Division I women’s basketball coaches in winning percentage, ahead of renowned coaching names like Rutgers’ Vivian Stringer, LSU’s Van Chancellor and North Carolina’s Sylvia Hatchell. More importantly, Liberty has won the Big South Tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament eight times with Green as head coach. Liberty has totaled 23 or more victories during seven of those years, including the 2004-05 season, which saw the Lady Flames reach the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history. Green has actually been to the postseason on 20 occasions as a women’s basketball coach, a span which includes a dozen years as an assistant coach at Clemson. In all but one of the 20 appearances, he has experienced the NCAA Tournament. Last season, Green led the Lady Flames to one of the best seasons in program history. Liberty tied a school record for victories, finishing the year 28-4. Along the way, the Lady Flames captured three tournament titles—the National City Xavier Invitational, the UNLV Lady Rebel Christmas Classic and their eighth Big South Championship in Green’s nine years as head coach. The latter championship earned Liberty a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the 11th time. Green won his 200th career game, Jan. 19 at Charleston Southern, and became the first four-time Big South Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year in conference history. Rebounding and defense have always been staples of Green-coached teams, and the 2007-08 Lady Flames were no exception. Liberty outrebounded opponents by an average of 10.2 caroms per game, ranking fifth nationally. The Lady Flames have now been listed among the nation’s top five teams in rebounding margin for five-straight years. Liberty led the nation in the category in 2003-04 and 2004-05. The Lady Flames also ended the season ranked in the top 15 in the nation for field goal percentage defense (fourth) and scoring defense (15th). A key late-season conference victory over High Point in 2006 made Green the winningest coach in Big South Conference history. He is also Liberty’s career wins leader. The record-setting victory was just one of the many reasons the 2004-05 year was a special one on Liberty Mountain. A senior-laden Lady Flames team recorded upset wins over No. 4 seed Penn State (78-70) and No. 5 seed DePaul (88-79) in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, becoming just the second team ever to advance to the Sweet 16 as a No. 13 seed. The Lady Flames ended the season with their highest national ranking to date, 21st (USA Today/ESPN). Green’s track record shows he has the ability to meet strong challenges. The Lady Flames have recorded two wins over UNLV, Virginia and West Virginia and solo victories over No. 19 DePaul, No. 17 Kansas State, No. 25 Penn State and Wake Forest during Green’s tenure. The upset victory over No. 25 Virginia in 2003 marked Liberty’s first win over a Top 25 team. His record against conference foes is equally impressive. He led the Lady Flames on a Big South record 47-game winning streak and currently owns a .913 (136-13) winning percentage against conference teams. Green has marched through conference play with one or fewer setbacks six times, while guiding the Lady Flames to two undefeated conference seasons. Highlighting the returnees is Christina Wirth, a 6-1 senior forward who was a first-team All-SEC pick last season. As a result, they were picked to win the SEC title before the season. The Commodores are off to a strong start in 2008-09, as they own a 10-2 overall record and are ranked in the top 20 of both national polls. Wirth is leading the way with 16.3 ppg, while 6-1 sophomore forward Hannah Tuomi is contributing 13.3 ppg and 6.1 rpg to the Commodores’ attack. Liberty and Vanderbilt have played one common opponent so far this season, UC Riverside. The Lady Flames edged the Highlanders, 45-44, in the Preseason WNIT on Nov. 21. Meanwhile, UC Riverside nipped visiting Vanderbilt by a 50-47 score on Dec. 6. Monday’s game is Vanderbilt’s third home game in the last four days, and the Commodores are 7-0 at Memorial Gymnasium this season. The Coaching Matchup Liberty Head Coach Carey Green is in his 10th season with the Lady Flames, and has led his team to eight Big South titles. A four-time Big South Coach of the Year, Green owns a 216-74 career record and is the all-time wins leader at Liberty and among Big South women’s basketball coaches. His career winning percentage (.745) ranked 10th among active NCAA Division I women’s basketball coaches at the season’s outset. Green is 0-1 all-time versus Vanderbilt. Melanie Balcomb is 156-54 in her seventh season at the helm of the Commodores and owns a 319-158 overall coaching record, which also includes stints at a pair of Ohio universities, Xavier and Ashland. Her teams have won at least 22 games in nine of the last 10 seasons, and Balcomb coached Xavier to the Elite Eight in 2001. Balcomb owns a 1-0 record all-time against Liberty. Liberty-Vanderbilt Series Notes Liberty and Vanderbilt are meeting for just the second time. The first matchup between the Lady Flames and Commodores came on March 22, 2003, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Old Dominion’s Constant Center in Norfolk, Va. Vanderbilt prevailed in a defensive struggle, 54-44, halting Liberty’s 22-game winning streak. Liberty Versus the SEC Liberty is 1-12 all-time versus the current SEC membership, including a 64-53 home setback to Auburn on Dec. 7. The Lady Flames are 0-1 against Alabama, 0-1 against Auburn, 0-1 against Florida, 0-3 against Georgia, 1-1 against Kentucky, 0-2 against LSU, 0-1 against South Carolina, 0-1 against Tennessee and 0-1 against Vanderbilt. Liberty’s only win versus a SEC opponent was an 80-76 triumph at Kentucky on Dec. 12, 1998. The Lady Flames erased an 18-point deficit to become the first Big South team ever to beat a SEC squad. Three Liberty players scored over 20 points, as Elena Kisseleva tallied 22 points, while twin sisters Sarah and Sharon Wilkerson had 21 apiece. The Penn State and DePaul victories came in the NCAA Tournament. Liberty is 0-1 versus Top 25 opponents this season, losing 64-53 to No. 13/14 Auburn on Dec. 7 at the Vines Center. All-Time Record in December The Lady Flames are 2-2 to open the month of December. Liberty is now 76-100 all-time during the calendar year’s final month, including 32-31 under head coach Carey Green. The Lady Flames have three more games scheduled this December. Last season, the Lady Flames won five of six games in December, including a home victory over James Madison. Liberty also captured the UNLV Lady Rebel Christmas Classic title. Liberty’s lone loss for the month came at No. 4 North Carolina. 6 x 10 Six Lady Flames reached double figures in the scoring column during Liberty’s 92-68 triumph over Saint Paul’s on Dec. 13. Freshman Kylee Beecher led the way with 18 points, followed by Moriah Frazee (16 points), Avery Warley (13), Danika Dale (12), Kittery Maine (12) and Amber Mays (10). Liberty had not featured six double-digit scorers in the same game since Jan. 19, 1987, when Pam Wilder (25 points), Pam Stanfield (14), Harriett Blair (12), Saundra Bridges (11), Annetta Paraham (11) and Sharon Freet (10) accomplished the feat for the Lady Flames. Their efforts helped Liberty claim a 98-83 home win over Ferrum. None of Liberty’s double-figure scorers from the Saint Paul’s contest were born on Jan. 19, 1987. Moriah Frazee was born a little more than two months later, on March 29. A New, Familiar Face Jessica Nelson just wrapped up a stellar volleyball career during Liberty’s first-round NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship matchup with No. 4 Nebraska on Dec. 5. Then, Nelson made her collegiate hardwood debut for the Lady Flames, just eight days later. She tallied five points, three assists and two rebounds versus Saint Paul’s, on Dec. 13. Nelson is the Lady Flames’ first two-sport athlete since 2005 graduate Stephanie Walker, who also competed for the Liberty women’s track & field team. Nelson is believed to be the first athlete to compete in both volleyball and women’s hoops at Liberty since Theresa Bream, who played basketball for the Lady Flames in 1989-90, 1990-91 and 1992-93. A-MAYS-ing Amber Junior point guard Amber Mays was voted to the all-tournament team at the Nov. 2829 GW Thanksgiving Classic, after a pair of stellar performances for the Lady Flames in the nation’s capital. Mays opened her weekend with an eight-point, four-assist outing versus Hartford on Nov. 28. She then came back with a career-high 14-point effort against South Alabama the following day, sinking six of her seven field goal attempts. Mays capped the weekend by celebrating her 20th birthday on Nov. 30. A-MAYS-ing Amber, Part 2 Amber Mays filled the stat sheet for the Lady Flames during their 92-68 victory against Saint Paul’s on Dec. 13. The junior totaled 10 points versus the Lady Tigers and tallied new career highs for assists (8), rebounds (6) and steals (5). In the process, Mays became the first Lady Flame to score in double figures while also recording at least five assists, five rebounds and five steals in the same game since Carey Green became head coach in 1999-2000. The last time a Liberty player recorded a 10-5-5-5 stat line came on Feb. 18, 1999 at the Vines Center. Sharon Wilkerson posted 17 points, five assists, seven boards and five steals in a 74-53 triumph over UNC Asheville. She paced the Lady Flames with a career-high 18 points, matching the Roanoke, Va., native’s point total from her first six appearances. Beecher also contributed six rebounds and a career-best five assists to Liberty’s 92-68 win. As a result, Beecher was tabbed Big South Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week on Dec. 15. She became Liberty’s first Big South Freshman of the Week since current Lady Flame senior Moriah Frazee won the award on Feb. 20, 2006. Balanced Scoring Redshirt freshman Avery Warley led all players in scoring during Liberty’s 55-43 win at Winston-Salem State on Saturday, tossing in a career-high 17 points. She became the sixth different player to pace the Lady Flames’ scoring parade during this season’s first nine contests, joining Kylee Beecher, Brittany Campbell, Megan Frazee, Moriah Frazee and Rachel Hammond. Last year, only five different players--Allyson Fasnacht, Megan Frazee, Molly Frazee, Moriah Frazee and Rebecca Lightfoot--led Liberty in scoring during the team’s 32 games. Megan Frazee led the way 24 times. Turning Up the Heat in the Furnace The 2008-09 campaign is the 17th season the Liberty University women’s basketball team has called the Vines Center its full-time home. Liberty’s first-ever contest at the Vines Center was an 86-74 loss to East Tennessee State, on Dec. 7, 1990, but the “Furnace” has served as a favorable venue for the Lady Flames over the years. Liberty is 179-51 (.778) all-time at the Vines Center, including 13-0 last season. The Lady Flames, 1-2 at the Vines Center in 2008-09, have 12 home games scheduled this season. Liberty Versus Non-Conference Opposition The Lady Flames are 3-6 to open the non-conference portion of their 2008-09 slate. Liberty is 263-291 all-time in non-conference outings. Last season, Liberty went 15-3 versus non-conference opponents. The Lady Flames won all six of their non-conference home games in 2007-08. Liberty’s best-ever season against non-conference foes came in 1997-98, when the Lady Flames went 14-1 outside the Big South. Liberty’s non-conference setback that season came to national champion Tennessee in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. A Seasoned Bunch Head coach Carey Green has the rare luxury of featuring six seniors on this season’s roster--Alexandria Bream, Megan Frazee, Molly Frazee, Moriah Frazee, Rachel Hammond and Rebecca Lightfoot. The seniors have all started at least once during their career at Liberty, combining for 242 career starts. The last time Liberty had six seniors was during the 1997-98 season. That year, Lisa Bateman, Erma Jackson, Mari Kong, Tiffany Ratcliff, Erin Wall and Flori Willie helped the Lady Flames record the only undefeated regular-season in program history. Liberty ended the year at 28-1, losing only to national champion Tennessee in the NCAA Tournament. Dial Three Digits for Long Distance The Lady Flames have been able to continue a long-standing streak, so far this season. The Lady Flames have made at least one three-pointer in a school-record 112 straight games, a run which began on Feb. 26, 2005. None of the current Lady Flames were in college when the streak began. Liberty kept the streak alive on Saturday by draining a quartet of triples in the second half, three of which were provided by Rachel Hammond. Lighting Up the Scoreboard Liberty’s 92-point outburst against Saint Paul’s on Dec. 13 was the ninth time the Lady Flames have scored 90 or more points in Carey Green’s 10 seasons as head coach. Liberty is 9-0 when reaching the 90-point mark under Green’s direction. Miscellaneous Stats Liberty’s Record ... Last season, the Lady Flames tallied a 3.354 GPA, ranking 14th in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Top 25 Team Honor Roll. It was the third straight season and the fifth time in program history that Liberty has been included in the Top 25 Team Honor Roll. The Lady Flames were listed a programbest seventh in 2006-07 and tied for 14th in 2005-06. Liberty was rated 13th in 1999-2000, which was Carey Green’s first season as head coach, and came in 12th during the 199899 campaign. Liberty was one of only three teams to be included in last season’s WBCA Top 25 Honor Roll and play in the NCAA Tournament, joining Kansas State and New Mexico. The most common starting five consisted of Allyson Fasnacht, Courtney Watkins, Megan Frazee, Rebecca Lightfoot and Moriah Frazee. The unit went 18-2 in their 20 games as a starting unit. The Lady Flames’ most successful grouping, which won all six games in 2007-08, featured Fasnacht, Watkins, Megan Frazee, Molly Frazee and Moriah Frazee. This year, Liberty has already used four different starting lineups in the first nine games of the season. Moriah Frazee, Rachel Hammond and Avery Warley have been the only three Lady Flames to start all eight contests. Counting Up the Votes Liberty was listed among the “Others Receiving Votes” in the Nov. 25 ESPN/USA Today Coaches Top 25 poll, for the third straight week, receiving one vote. Last season, the Lady Flames regularly received votes in both national polls, but did not quite crack the Top 25. Liberty’s most recent Top 25 ranking came in the final ESPN/ USA Today Coaches poll of the 2004-05 season. The Lady Flames were listed No. 21, after reaching the “Sweet 16” of the NCAA Tournament. 2008-09 Opponents in the National Rankings Two of Liberty’s 2008-09 opponents appear in the current Top 25 polls. Auburn is listed No. 10 in both the AP Top 25 poll and the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Top 25 poll, while fellow SEC member Vanderbilt is ranked No. 19 in the AP poll and No. 20 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches listing. Two other opponents are receiving votes in the national polls, as Hartford and North Carolina A&T are both listed in the “Others Receiving Votes” section of the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Top 25 poll. Halfway There? Halftime leads have not been safe so far this season in Liberty’s games. Four times, the team owning the halftime advantage has gone on to lose the game. The Lady Flames have dropped a trio of contests after leading at intermission, and Liberty claimed victory at Winston-Salem State on Saturday, despite trailing at the break. Last season, Liberty was 3-2 when trailing at halftime. Lack of Overtime Liberty has played only one overtime game in its last 155 outings, a 64-62 setback at High Point on Jan. 20, 2007. The Lady Flames’ most recent overtime victory came on Jan. 6, 2004, when Liberty defeated American, 76-72, on the road in double overtime. No current Lady Flame has won an overtime contest in college. Liberty’s most recent overtime contest at the Vines Center was a memorable one. The Lady Flames defeated Virginia, 77-69, in overtime on Nov. 26, 2002, to claim their firstever win over the Cavaliers. It also marked Liberty’s first win over a ranked opponent, as Virginia entered the game with a No. 25 national ranking. Double the Fun Megan Frazee’s 28 points and 11 rebounds versus VCU on Nov. 14 gave the senior 37 career double-doubles, ranking second on the Lady Flames’ career list during the NCAA Division I era. Katie Feenstra, now of the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream, owns the program Division I record with 49 double-doubles. Frazee’s fellow seniors, Moriah Frazee and Rebecca Lightfoot, have crafted one double-double apiece during their time at Liberty. The Container is Half Full Liberty connected on a season-high 55.7 percent (34-of-61) of its field goal attempts against Saint Paul’s on Dec. 13, leading to a 92-68 victory. The Lady Flames went 9-0 last season when shooting 50 percent or higher. Liberty is now 50-0 in such contests under head coach Carey Green. Top 50 Scorers in Liberty History 1. Elena Kisseleva 2. Liberty claimed 17 of 19 first-place votes and earned 169 total points. Winthrop was second with 143 points. Individually, Megan Frazee was voted Big South Preseason Player of the Year for the third season in a row. Sister Moriah Frazee joined her on the preseason all-conference roster. Last season, the Frazees averaged 37.6 points and 19.0 rebounds per outing, good for 52.5 percent of the Lady Flames’ total scoring output and 44.8 percent of the team’s boards. Collectively, the Frazee triplets have totaled 2,930 career points and 1,535 career rebounds. Megan, Molly and Moriah Frazee started together six times last season and have done so 14 times in their career. One of the Frazees led the Lady Flames in scoring in 30 out of 32 games during the 2007-08 campaign. Miss Consistency Megan Frazee has scored in double figures in each of her last 46 games, dating back to Jan. 27, 2007. It is the longest such streak of her career and the longest by a Liberty player since Elena Kisseleva tallied 10 or more points in 62 straight contests, spanning the 1996-97, 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons. Frazee has only scored nine or fewer points on four occasions at Liberty, and has never done so in consecutive outings. Clamping Down on Defense The Lady Flames have held 60 consecutive opponents under 50 percent field goal shooting. The last Liberty foe to sink more than half of its field goal attempts was Marist, at the Maryland Terrapin Classic on Dec. 29, 2006. Liberty is off to a good start defensively in 2008-09. Five of the Lady Flames’ first nine opponents have shot below 40 percent from the floor. Liberty ranks third in the Big South with a .370 opponents field goal percentage. A Short Commute Freshman guard Brittany Campbell attended high school literally right down the street from Liberty University at Brookville High School. She is the first Lynchburg-area player to suit up for the Lady Flames since Tekita Butler in the 2002-03 season. Top 50 Rebounders in Liberty History 1. Katie Feenstra 2. Sharon Snodgrass 3. The last time the Lady Flames’ roster consisted solely of American-born players was the 1993-94 campaign. Every Carey Green-coached team at Liberty has featured at least one international player. An Outstanding Opener Megan Frazee tallied a game-high 28 points against VCU on Nov. 14, marking the most points she has ever scored in a season-opening game. It was also the most points tallied by a Lady Flame in a season opener since Nov. 23, 1996, when freshman Elena Kisseleva dropped 30 markers on Bluefield in an 89-45 Liberty victory at the Vines Center. A Lucky 13 As a result of Megan Frazee’s big performance versus VCU, which also included a game-high 11 rebounds, she was tabbed this season’s inaugural Big South Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. It is the 13th time in Frazee’s career she has captured the conference’s weekly honor. Only former Liberty standout Katie Feenstra has collected more Big South Women’s Basketball Player of the Week awards in conference history. Feenstra finished her Liberty career with 15 weekly plaques. Anything You Can Do ... Last season, Megan Frazee became the 11th player in program history to score 1,000 career points, eclipsing the magical mark at North Carolina on Dec. 30, 2007. This year, she could get some company from within her own family. Sister Moriah Frazee enters the Winston-Salem State contest with 926 points, leaving her 74 shy of 1,000. If Frazee scores at her current season average of 11.3 points per contest, she is due to hit the milestone on Jan. 17, during the Lady Flames’ game at Presbyterian. Frazee is also climbing Liberty’s career rebounding chart. She currently ranks 21st in program history with 492 boards, leaving her two behind Helen Gomes for the 20th spot. The senior also needs eight caroms to become the 20th player in Liberty history to nab 500 career rebounds. The Frazees would not be the first sister duo to score over 1,000 points at Liberty. Sharon and Sarah Wilkerson, who graduated in 2000, totaled 1,733 and 1,331 points, respectively. First Time Since Feenstra Redshirt freshman Avery Warley established a pair of career highs during Liberty’s Nov. 21 victory over UC Riverside, coming up with 11 rebounds and four blocked shots. In the process, she became the first Liberty to tally at least 10 rebounds and four blocks in the same contest since the final game of Katie Feenstra’s brilliant Liberty career. The 6-8 Feenstra, now of the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream, notched 12 rebounds and four blocks versus No. 1 seed LSU in the “Sweet 16” of the NCAA Tournament, on March 26, 2005. Finishing Strong Liberty has played well in the second half of its last two games, against Saint Paul’s and Winston-Salem State. The Lady Flames have outscored their foes by a combined score of 87-54 after intermission, connecting on 62.7 percent (32-of-51) of their secondhalf field goal attempts. A Career Afternoon Five Lady Flames set new career scoring highs against Saint Paul’s on Dec. 13, including Kylee Beecher (18 points), Avery Warley (13), Danika Dale (12), Kittery Maine (12) and Jessica Nelson (5). Of the 14 players on Liberty’s active roster, 13 have now enjoyed a double-digit scoring game during their career. The only exception is Nelson, who got halfway there during her collegiate basketball debut against Saint Paul’s. Liberty battled back from a 21-4 deficit in its season opener to take a pair of secondhalf leads. However, visiting VCU edged the Lady Flames, 59-57, in a first-round Preseason WNIT contest, as Radoslava Bachvarova drained three free throws with just 2.1 seconds left. VCU tallied the evening’s first 12 points, before Megan Frazee canned a one-handed floater from six feet, at the 14:10 mark of the opening half. The Rams later notched nine straight points, bolstering their advantage to 21-4 at 10:48. Liberty limited VCU to one field goal over the final 4:20 of the opening stanza, running off an 11-2 surge in the meantime and closing the gap to 31-27 at the intermission. Megan Frazee finally gave Liberty its initial lead of the contest, 45-44, draining a three-pointer from the right wing at the 11:02 mark. The Lady Flames’ next lead did not come until 4:30 remained on the game clock, when Megan Frazee found Avery Warley for an open layup. Warley’s basket was part of a 7-0 Liberty burst. Megan Frazee’s reverse layup at 3:11 capped the run, increasing the Lady Flames’ lead to 54-51. VCU came back to tie things up again, 54-54, when Quanitra Hollingsworth split a pair of free throws with 2:18 remaining, setting the stage for a frenetic final minute of play. Mays put Liberty on top, 56-54, with a driving layup at the 44-second mark, before Hollingsworth answered with a hoop from in close, 10 seconds later. Warley went to the free throw line on the Lady Flames’ ensuing possession, splitting a pair of free throws with 6.4 seconds remaining. Her connection briefly put Liberty in front, 57-56, before Bachvarova’s clutch charity tosses for the Rams. Meanwhile, Liberty’s edge reached 30 on three occasions, as the Lady Flames finished with a season-high point total in their 92-68 triumph. Head coach Carey Green’s squad was efficient at the offensive end, sinking 63.6 percent (21-of-33) of its field goal attempts after the intermission. Game 9 Liberty (3-6) 55 December 20, 2008 Winston-Salem State (0-9) 43 Rachel Hammond scored all 13 of her points during the second half, and Liberty limited Winston-Salem State to three field goals in the first 17:30 after halftime, at the C.E. Gaines Center. As a result, the Lady Flames opened the half with a 26-9 surge, overcoming a one-point halftime deficit to win their second straight game, 55-43. Homestanding Winston-Salem State made its first two threepointers of the contest, while Liberty utilized its size advantage. The Lady Flames owned a 9-6 lead at the 14:59 mark, scoring all nine of their points inside the paint and free-throw line. The Lady Rams briefly reclaimed the advantage, 13-12, after a MaLisa Bumpus three-pointer from well beyond the arc, 9:32 before halftime. Liberty then clamped down on defense, limiting Winston-Salem State to a single field goal over the next five minutes. In the meantime, the Lady Flames reeled off an 8-2 surge, featuring a pair of Amber Mays layups. Rachel McLeod nailed both ends of a one-and-one at 5:01. Her second charity toss gave Liberty its largest lead of the opening half, 20-15. The Lady Rams closed out the stanza by tallying 10 of the final 14 markers. A Bumpus jumper with 1:20 left sent her team into the locker room in front by a single point, 25-24. Hammond drained a threepointer on Liberty’s opening possession of the second half, giving the Lady Flames a lead they would not relinquish, 27-25. Her hoop was part of a half-opening 7-0 run by the Lady Flames. Rene Rector then nailed two three-pointers in 44 seconds for Winston-Salem State. Her second triple, with 16:05 remaining in the contest, trimmed her team’s deficit to 33-31. Hammond made two more three-pointers during Liberty’s ensuing 10-0 surge, bolstering the Lady Flames’ advantage to 43-31. The Lady Rams got no closer than nine points down for the remainder of the afternoon, while the Lady Flames went on to wrap up a 55-43 decision, their first road triumph of the season.
