It was just the second fourovertime game on record in VMI basketball history, joining a Feb. 1967 game against the Citadel, and was the first Division I men’s game to go over three OT’s since Feb. 23, 2013, a game between Tennessee and Texas A&M. The game was featured with a highlight package on ESPN’s SportsCenter during the overnight hours of Feb. 5. Statistical Notes from the Instant Classic: Feb. 5’s game between VMI and GWU is believed to be the longest game in the 30-year history of the Big South Conference. It is only the second four-OT game on record for the Keydets, joining the Feb. 13, 1967 loss to The Citade. D.J. Covington (28/13/five blocks) and Rodney Glasgow (21/12/five steals) were the first teammates to post 20/10/5 nights in those stats in the same game, since the turn of the century, according to ESPN research. In the triumph, VMI was paced by Peterson’s 25 points which included 22 markers after halftime, helping his team rally from a 12-point first half deficit. The win was VMI’s first overtime victory since Dec. 31, 2011, a win against Presbyterian College, and was the first time VMI had played back to back overtime games since Feb. of 2009. Overtime Again: January 22nd’s overtime win over High Point was VMI’s second straight OT contest, after a loss at Campbell four days earlier. It was the first time VMI had played back to back overtime games since Feb. 2-4, 2009, also a sequence in which they lost the initial game and won the second.
