Keydets Looking to Start a Road Run:
Those who follow VMI basketball are familiar with
the team’s home successes during the past several years,
but with a win over Liberty Saturday, the Keydets would

happened since VMI won four straight away from

The Series vs. Liberty
The VMI/Liberty series may have developed into the Keydets’ best Big
South basketball rivalry, as the teams have played a number of memorable
games over the past handful of seasons. Those include eliminating each
other from the Big South Tournament in three successive years (2007,
2008 and 2009), ending the careers’ of each other’s greatest players
(Reggie Williams and Larry Blair) and, lest it be forgotten, VMI beat
Liberty in Seth Curry’s final game with the Flames before he transferred to
Duke in 2009.

Keydets Beat GWU in Four-OT Classic:
In the longest game in Division I men's basketball this season, the VMI
Keydets made last-second shots to force the first overtime, the third overtime
and a fourth extra period and went on to defeat the Gardner-Webb Runnin'
Bulldogs, 108-104, in a four-overtime classic in Big South basketball action
Wednesday night, Feb. 5 in Boiling Springs, N.C. It was just the second fourovertime game on record in VMI basketball history, joining a Feb. 1967 game
against the Citadel, and was the first Division I men’s game to go over three
OT’s since Feb. 23, 2013, a game between Tennessee and Texas A&M.
The game was featured with a highlight package on ESPN’s
SportsCenter during the overnight hours of Feb. 5.
Statistical Notes from the Instant Classic:
Feb. 5’s game between VMI and GWU is believed to be the longest
game in the 30-year history of the Big South Conference. It is only the second
four-OT game on record for the Keydets, joining the Feb. 13, 1967 loss to
The Citade.
D.J. Covington (28/13/five blocks) and Rodney Glasgow (21/12/five
steals) were the first teammates to post 20/10/5 nights in those stats in the
same game, since the turn of the century, according to ESPN research.
Glasgow had a career-high 12 assists against GWU, VMI’s most in a single game since Ron Burks had 13 in Nov. of 2009.
Peterson Named Big South Player of the Week:
VMI freshman guard QJ Peterson has been named the Big South
Conference Choice Hotels Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, accordingly
to information released by the conference Feb. 3.
Peterson averaged 31.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in leading
the Keydets to two victories. It was the first Big South Player of the Week
honor of his career, and he is the first freshman to earn Player of the Week
honors since Dec. 17, 2012 (Keith Hornsby, Asheville).
Keydets Best Presbyterian, 107-93:
Rodney Glasgow notched 26 points and seven assists, QJ Peterson
scored 25 markers including seven three-pointers and the VMI Keydets shot
50 percent from the field en route to a dominating 107-93 win over the
Presbyterian College Blue Hose in Big South action Friday night, Jan. 31 at
Cameron Hall in Lexington, Va.
Keydets Down Asheville in 109-105 Shootout:
QJ Peterson and Rodney Glasgow combined for 72 points and each
posted a double-double, helping their VMI Keydets prevail in a Big South
shootout with the UNC Asheville Bulldogs, 109-105, Jan. 28 in Asheville,
N.C. Both Peterson (37) and Glasgow (35) finished one point off their career
high scoring efforts, while Glasgow had 10 assists and Peterson led VMI with
a career high 15 rebounds.
35 and 15 an Extreme Rarity:
By scoring 37 points and grabbing 15 rebounds in Jan. 28’s win at UNC
Asheville, QJ Peterson (according to ESPN Stats and Info) became the first
Division I player this season to hit 35-15 in the same game. He was also the
first player to meet both those marks for VMI since Reggie Williams on Jan.
10, 2007.
Closest Stretch of Games in Years:
With its four-point win at UNC Asheville Jan. 28, VMI had its first run
of four straight games decided by five points or less since Dec. 31, 2008 - Jan.
10, 2009.
Keydets Edged by Winthrop in Thriller:
D.J. Covington had 19 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks for the VMI
Keydets, but Winthrop Eagle point guard Keon Johnson made a driving, double-clutch layup with less than two seconds to go to give Winthrop a 58-57

Historic Regular Season Tournament
Win:
After entering the game in a 2 for 15 slump
from three-point range, Jordan Weethee broke out
in a big way Nov. 16 against Bluefield State. He
went 7 for 7 overall, including 6 of 6 from distance,
to notch a career-high 20 points. The 6 for 6 effort
is believed to make him only the second Keydet
ever to make at least five three-pointers in a game
without missing.
VMI's All-Military Classic title was the program's first regular season tourney trophy since the
1978 Siena College Tournament in Loudonville,
N.Y. (January 3-4, 1978). This year’s AMC is also
believed to have been the first regular season basketball tournament ever hosted on the VMI Post.

After struggling in the season’s first three
games from long range, VMI broke out in a big way

a dramatic first half dunk that was tagged as ESPN
SportsCenter's top play of the day. It marked the
second time in three years a Keydet basketball player had attained the accolade as Stan Okoye's dunk
against Ohio State snagged the top spot November
23, 2011.
