Platon glass tubes

100mm SCALE GLASS TUBE & FLOAT
The Platon range of Glass Tube Flowmeters typically uses the 100mm
scale length borosilicate glass tube and a float. Based on the well known
variable area (VA) principle of flow measurement, these flowmeters
provide clear, simple and reliable operation.
FLOWMETERS
Principle of Operation
Fluid flowing vertically upwards through the tapered glass tube
causes the float to rise to an equilibrium position. Flow rate is
measured by reading the top edge of the float against the scaled tube
(see diagram below).
Platon Glass Tubes from RM&C are individually scaled and calibrated
according to customer’s requirements. Custom scales are produced
using our "Reynolds Curve" prediction software, which uses air or
water calibration data corrected for the effects of temperature and
pressure on the density and viscosity of the working fluid.
• Instantaneous response
• Simple and relaible operation
• Low line pressure loss
• High resolution

1
FGTF 1CHD and FGTF 1BHD scales are specially calibrated for very low flow rates with an accuracy of ±2.5%FSD.

Atmospheric temperature and pressure is abbreviated to ATP on Platon flowmeters. Custom scales for other
conditions are available. Unless requested, custom scale units will be expressed at ATP.
Product Codes
For standard gas or water ranges, select the required flow range from the table
on page 11. To order, quote the Tube Code, with the Scale Code as a suffix. Unit
scaled tubes, 1 to 10 linear units, are also available as standard. Quote the
required Tube Code with the suffix A.
Example: For a typical Argon flow of 3 L/min, choose the range 0.6 to 4 L/min
and quote the code FGTF 2BHD-J.

Platon Glass VA Flowmeter Tubes are widely
supplied for use on medical equipment such as
anaesthetic trolleys. Available in keyed lengths
and colour coded to avoid incorrect
installation, standard tubes are calibrated for
oxygen, nitrous oxide or air.
