(5-3, 0-2 Big South)
Lynchburg, Va. (Williams Stadium - 19,200) - 3:34 p.m. - ASN
First and 10 - Today’s Top Storylines
1)The Military Appreciation Day contest at Williams Stadium will match up two teams heading in opposite directions. Liberty has won three straight games and looks to remain undefeated in Big South play,
while Monmouth is coming off of back-to-back losses in its first two Big South tilts in program history.
2)Monmouth is playing its first season of Big South football after playing 17 years of Northeast Conference (NEC) football. See page 3 for more information on the conference newcomer.
3) Passing yards could come in bunches on Saturday, as Liberty QB Josh Woodrum (2,318) and Monmouth QB Brandon Hill (2,046) have both thrown for over 2,000 yards already this season.
4)Woodrum enters the game three touchdown passes shy of 50 for his career and 135 passing yards
away from 7,000 career yards.
5) Woodrum’s most frequent target, WR Darrin Peterson, needs 135 receiving yards to break Chris Summers’ Liberty single-season record of 1,081 yards from 2010. See page 4 for other possible milestones.
6)Liberty will attempt to improve to 9-0 in November under head coach Turner Gill. See page 4 for more
information on what a Flames victory would mean.
7)The Flames’ defense has held its first two Big South opponents of the season to a total of seven
points. See page 5 some of the keys to Liberty’s recent defensive success.
8)On Monday, P Trey Turner became the third Flame to be named Big South Freshman of the Week this
season (also Todd Macon and Stephon Masha). See page 6 for Liberty’s individual honors in 2014.
9) Sophomore LB Dexter Robbins is coming off of a career-best eight-tackle performance at Presbyterian. See page 8 for a list of the Flames’ up-to-date career highs.
10)After picking off two passes at Presbyterian, All-America S Jacob Hagen is tied for third in Big South
history with 12 career interceptions. See pages 9-10 for various records Liberty players are chasing.

Today’s Matchup
“4 Downs” with the Hawks
1 - Monmouth
is playing its first season of Big
South football after spending 17 years (19962012) playing Northeast Conference (NEC) football. The Hawks are in search of their first Big
South win after dropping league contests to
Presbyterian and Charleston Southern.
2-
Saturday’s game will mark the second gridiron meeting all-time between Liberty and Monmouth and the second at Williams Stadium in as
many years. The Flames posted a 45-15 home
win over the Hawks on Sept. 7, 2013. Monmouth
is one of two teams (also Brevard) which appears
on Liberty’s 2013 and 2014 home schedules.
3-
Monmouth scored 50+ points three times in
non-conference play, but has been limited to just
12 total points in its first two Big South games.
Meanwhile, Liberty has allowed 46 or more
points three times this season, but has only
yielded seven total points in two Big South tilts.
4-
Saturday’s contest could see a lot of passing
yards, as the opposing signal callers have combined for over 4,000 yards through the air in
2014. Liberty’s Josh Woodrum leads the Big
South and ranks No. 8 nationally with 2,318 passing yards, while Monmouth’s Brandon Hill is third
in the conference and No. 19 in the nation with
2,046 yards. Incidentally, both Woodrum and Hill
wear No. 6 on their uniforms.
Last Meeting with Monmouth
Sept. 7, 2013
Liberty 45, Monmouth 15
Lynchburg, Va. (Williams Stadium)
•Liberty broke open its first-ever meeting with
Monmouth by scoring 36 unanswered points
during the second and third quarters of the
Flames’ 2013 home opener.
•Darrin Peterson finished with three catches for
124 yards and two TDs, including an 85-yard reception for a score. He also completed a 22-yard
pass.
•Kevin Fogg recorded two of Liberty’s three interceptions of Monmouth QB Brandon Hill, returning one of them 29 yards for a score.
•D.J. Abnar notched the Flames’ third and final
rushing touchdown of the evening.
•Josh Woodrum needed only 19 pass attempts to
rack up 237 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
•Monmouth’s QBs (Hill and Greg Depugh) were a
combined 12-of-25 passing with three interceptions.
Military Appreciation Day
•Saturday’s game will mark the fifth annual Military Appreciation Day at Williams Stadium. Since
2010, Liberty has designated a November home
game near Veterans Day as Military Appreciation
Day.
•One of the day’s biggest highlights is the awarding of the George Rogers Champion of Freedom
Award, named after World War II veteran George
Rogers.
•Previous honorees include George Rogers (2010),
Steve Bozeman (2011), Tim Lee (2012) and Clebe
McClary (2013).
•This year’s George Rogers Champion of Freedom
Award winner is U.S. Marine Oliver North.
•On the field, Liberty’s football team is 4-0 on Military Appreciation Day. Below is a brief look at
the first four Military Appreciation Day contests.
Nov. 6, 2010 - Liberty 40, Gardner-Webb 14
Nov. 5, 2011 - Liberty 37, VMI 31
Nov. 10, 2012 - Liberty 28, No. 6/8 Stony Brook 14
Nov. 2, 2013 - Liberty 17, VMI 7
Hawk Connections
•Liberty boasts three New Jersey natives on its
roster and all three have connections to Monmouth players.
•Liberty defensive lineman Toby Onyechi and
Monmouth punter Ryan Mohr are both from
West Orange, N.J. However, they attended different high schools, as Onyechi graduated from
West Orange High School and Mohr attended Seton Hall Prep.
•Liberty offensive lineman Aharown Campbell,
who lists Teaneck, N.J., as his hometown, spent
one year at Hargrave Military Academy, as did
Monmouth defensive back Pat Gray.
•Liberty freshman Kyle Carrington and Monmouth
freshman Vinny Grasso both hail from Toms River, N.J., and were teammates at Monsignor Donovan High School last season. Grasso played QB
and Carrington was one of his receivers.
•Additionally, Liberty linebacker Bobby Partilla
and Monmouth offensive lineman Ed Hunt were
teammates at Arundel High School in Maryland,
and both were invited to play in the Maryland
State Crab Bowl as seniors.
Streak at Stake
•The Flames have yet to lose a game in the month
of November under head coach Turner Gill. Liberty is 8-0 in November contests since the 2012
season, including a 7-0 mark in Big South tilts.

Milestone Watch
1 -
Jacob Hagen needs one interception to tie
Coastal Carolina’s Josh Norman (2008-11) for
second place in Big South history with 13 career
picks.
3 - Josh Woodrum needs three TD passes to be-
come the third quarterback in program history
and the fourth in Big South annals with 50 career
TD passes.
53/135/168 - Darrin Peterson is 53 receiving
yards shy of 1,000 for the season, 135 yards away
from breaking Chris Summers’ (2010) Liberty single-season record of 1,081 receiving yards and

135/172 -
Josh Woodrum needs 135 passing
yards to become the fourth quarterback in Liberty and Big South Conference history to throw

would enable Woodrum to leapfrog Brock Smith
(2005-08) for third place in Liberty and Big South
history.
158 - D.J. Abnar needs 158 rushing yards for his
first 1,000-yard season and the first by a Flame
since Aldreakis Allen finished with 1,019 yards in
2012.
A Liberty Win Would ...
