DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY CAMPBELL UNIVERSITY (ROTC) BOX 307 BUIE’S CREEK, NORTH CAROLINA 27506 ATOE-DNC-CU 8 January 2013 MEMORANDUM FOR ALL CADETS IN THE CAMPBELL BATTALION SUBJECT: Professional Military Education (PME) Requirements 1. To qualify for commissioning, a cadet must not only meet all standards outlined in their school catalog for their academic major but also pass both the Military Science curriculum and meet PME requirements in three areas: Military History, Written Communication Skills, and Computer Literacy. 2. Cadets meet these requirements by taking the courses listed below at their school. Additional information on each requirement is listed in CCR 145-3 para 2-5. a. Military History Requirement: All cadets must successfully compete a college level survey course in American Military History, preferably one that includes a battle analysis and lessons learned from that battle. The course objectives are to improve cadet understanding of the evolution of war, the evolution of professionalism in the American Military, and the place of the American Military in this society. The Campbell Battalion campuses offer the following history courses: SCHOOL COURSE Campbell University Methodist College Fayetteville State University UNC-Pembroke HIST 310, The American Military Experience MSC 421, The American Military Experience* HIST 362, The American Military Experience MSC 421, The United States Military Experience *Fall semester only. b. Written Communication Skills. The Campbell Battalion Campuses offer the following communications classes: SCHOOL Campbell University Methodist College Fayetteville State University UNC-Pembroke COURSE ENG 101, English Composition I and ENG 102, English Composition II** ENG 101, Composition, and ENG 102, Composition and Introduction to Literature** ENG 110, English Composition I, and ENG 120, English Composition II** CMA 105, Composition I and CMA 106, Composition** **Both of these must be taken to satisfy the PME requirement. ATOE-DNC-CU SUBJECT: Professional Military Education (PME) Requirements 3. Transfer courses and higher level course other than those listed above may satisfy PME requirements. Scheduling conflicts may prevent a cadet from taking the courses listed above. To request a substitute course, you must submit the substituted course and the reason for the request in writing. You must obtain your Military Science instructor approval prior to submitting the request to the Professor of Military Science for final approval. All cadets must review and sign their CC Form 104-R with their military science instructor prior to advancement to the next semester. Cadets are required to take this document and their CC form 104-R to their academic advisors as part of their advisement sessions. Discrepancies on that form must be explained with a plan of action to ensure academic and PME requirements are satisfied prior to graduation and commissioning.
