“The more that you read, the more things you will know, the more you learn, the more places
you will go.” Dr. Seuss
CHECKING FRIDAY LETTERS, HOMEWORK FOLDERS,
TUESDAY NEWSDAY FOLDERS AND BACKPACKS!
Please check your child’s homework folder daily, and their Tuesday Newsday
Folders on Tuesdays for important information that needs your attention. Ask
your child daily if there is something you need to look at or see. Please read the
Friday letters and return them by Monday or Tuesday signed. Thank you. It is
important that students get into the habit of getting important information home
to parents and parents and families can help them do this!
SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Parents we need #2 pencils, black and white marble notebooks and 3 ring binder
paper. Please make sure your student has supplies as we proceed throughout the
year. All donations to the classroom are also welcome and appreciated!
HOMEWORK
Please remind your child to be reading for at least 30 minutes each night. This is
so important for their success! Also make sure that homework is completed and
put back into their homework folder and that the folder gets returned to their
backpacks before they go onto another activity. If students get into a regular
routine with their homework they will be successful!

INCREASE YOUR CHILD’S VOCABULARY!
Words are unique and words are cool! They are fun to learn! Help your child
learn new words. How? Talk to your child about things you know.
Teach them cooking terms, football and soccer terms, what the parts of the car
are called, the names of the tools in your toolbox or sewing box.
If you work in a store teach them some of the terms you use every day like, credit
and debit, and “in the black” and “in the red.”
Teach them words in the grocery store and in the restaurant when you go to eat.
What is a menu? What does a la mode mean? What is a buffet and how does it
work?
Teach them words in different languages. How do you say red in Spanish, Tagalog
or in French?
Parents, teach your child the things you know. It will help them to become
better readers and writers!
HELP YOUR CHILD KNOW MORE ABOUT THE PLACE THEY LIVE IN.
What do you know about the state of Maryland? What part of the United States
is it located in? Have you lived in other states? How are the states the same and
how are they different?
Does your child know their address? Do they know their telephone number and
how to get in touch with a parent? Does your child know where you and other
members of your family work? Do they know what you do in your job?
HELP YOUR CHILD KNOW MORE ABOUT THEIR FAMILY HISTORY AND CULTURE.
Does your child know where their grandparents were born? Do they know where
their parents were born? Do they know some facts about their culture? Do they
know what holidays you celebrate and why you celebrate them? Can they
describe some different foods from their culture?
Does your child know where their name comes from? Why did you give them
their name?
