TURFGRASS VARIETIES
Turfgrass seed of Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, fine
fescues, and Tall fescue were planted in 5 by 10 foot plots on August
8, 1980. The varieties, seed source, and seeding rate are listed in
Table 8. The plots were sprinkler irrigated at 2 inches in 24 hours
applied at 7 day intervals. Ammonium sulfate was applied at 60 pounds
N per acre at seeding and 120 pounds N on April 9, 1981. The plots were
mowed weekly at the 2-inch height. The first 5 feet of each plot was
mowed with the clippings bagged and removed. The second five feet was
mowed with the same machine where the clippings were mulched back onto
the plots.
One year after planting, the plots will be visually rated. Ratings
will be conducted four times each year in August, November, February, and
May to determine seasonal variations. The rating will include overall
acceptability as turf, color of green, and disease damage as necessary.
After two months of mowing, the mulched plotg regrowth and color were
superior to the bagged part of all plots.
