Mill Creek Towne
Kindergarten News
All the children have made a good adjustment to our
Kindergarten program. It is important that you check your child’s
green school folder, complete any information, and repack it in
his/her backpack. Don’t forget to put money in your child’s lunch
account.
Reading
In reading we are
working on reading
for literary experience. Students will
identify the characters, problems, and
solutions of a story
using familiar books.
We are also learning
about capital and
lower case letters
and the sounds they
make. It would be
helpful if you would
reinforce these
strategies at home.
Students are learning
how to work independently at centers.
They will have the
opportunity to practice and review skills
taught in whole group
lessons. Students are
working on social
skills such as taking
turns and sharing.
Math
We are currently
working on Unit
One. We are working on number
sense. We will use
these words to locate specific items
in our room. We will
also learn the vocabulary word
“sort”. We will do
several sorting activities. We will also
learn the rules for
math stations.

Writer’s Workshop
The students will learn how to be a writer. The students will be
introduced to the structure and the routine of Writer’s Workshop. They will begin to learn the steps in the writing process.
In addition, we are emphasizing the importance of everyday
writing. Again, it would be helpful to have you demonstrate this
at home (shopping list, notes, letters, etc.)

Science
Social Studies
Our unit of study for Science is weather. The students will learn how to use
their five senses to observe weather.
We will go on science walks and learn
what it means to be a scientist. We will
read several books about weather. The
students will get up and move with science this year.
The students will learn about
the rules of the school. The
students will take a tour
around the school and students will learn the roles and
responsibilities of the personnel in our school. The students
will develop the ground rules
for their classrooms and discuss what their job is in our
classrooms.
