Mill Creek Towne Kindergarten News It is important that you check your child’s green home folder, complete any information, and repack it in his/her backpack. Please remember to return the homework journal on Thursdays. Please remember to dress warmly for outside weather. Reading for Literary Experience This month we will continue to discuss concepts about print to prepare for the county reading test next month. Please work with your child on discussing the title page of a book, pointing to each word, and where to begin reading. We will review identifying characters, setting, and beginning, middle, and end of the story. Also, we will be reviewing how to retell a story. Foundational Skills We have continued to work with letters and letter sounds. Next month we will measure reading progress using the county reading assessment. Please work with your child on recognizing all upper and lower case letters. We will continue to practice our high frequency words. We learned how to count syllables in words and how to segment words. Math Writer’s Workshop We continue to write in our journals everyday. Students should be able to read and write the 31 word wall words. This will help their writing. We are working on spacing and punctuation marks. Please help us by helping your child to sound out unknown words, identifying the 31 word wall words, and rereading to make sure that the sentence makes sense. This month our focus is on measurement. We will use cubes to measure certain objects around our room. We will also discuss ten frames. Students will develop visual images for quantities up to 10. Students will count and compare quantities throughout this unit. These activities will support students as they make connections between counting and combining, which helps them begin to add and subtract small numbers.
