It is important that you check your child’s green home folder, complete any
information, and repack it in his/her backpack. Please remember to return the
homework journal on Thursdays. Please remember to check your child’s lunch
account regularly and make sure that there is enough money in their lunch account.
Dr. Seuss Birthday
Read Across America
We celebrated Dr.
Seuss’ birthday during
the first week in
March. We read several Dr. Seuss books.
We discussed rhyming
words. Dr. Seuss
books are also a great
place to find word wall
words and to discuss
characters, setting,
problem, and solution.
Please take this time
to enjoy reading with
your child.
Reading
Students will read and
discuss informative
text. Students will continue to ask and answer
questions about key
details. We will discuss
how to determine the
main idea of the text.
We will also discuss
how to retell key
details.
Please continue to
practice the word wall
words and letter
sounds. It is important
that all students know
the 44 word wall words
and knows how to spell
them. This will help
them with their writing
and reading.
Writer’s Workshop
Students will write
informative text.
Students will select
an animal, ask questions and find the
answer using print
and digital sources.
Students will gather
information to draw,
dictate or write an
informative sentence
about the topic. We
will also discuss punctuation marks and
how to use them appropriately. Please
make sure that you
are practicing with
your child using the
homework journal. It
is so important that
you are working with
your child on their
writing.
Math
We will discuss composing and decomposing shapes. This involves students learning how smaller shapes can be put together to form larger
shapes and how larger shapes can be made of smaller shapes. When students take apart and build shapes, students will be able to talk about
the number of sides and corners. It gives the students the opportunity
to move shapes based on their attributes. This will lead students to a
deeper understanding of geometry.

Science and Social Studies
Students will identify and describe the observable external features of animals. We will get a chance to observe
our Darkling Beetles. We will identify and describe the
body parts of insects. Students will sort and explain what
is an insect and what is not an insect. We will continue to
discuss the animals that we see in Maryland. We will compare animals that live here and animals that live in other
places.
Social Studies
We will discuss natural resources
used to make goods. Our definition
of a natural resource is a gift of
nature that are used to make a
product. For example: an apple is a
natural resource as a gift of nature. The product would be apple
pie, apple juice, candy apple and
apple sauce.
