Soil Degree-Day Accumulation -- KBREC and IREC 2011
For Root-knot nematode control, Vydate applications should begin at 800 degree-days (DD5C).
To estimate that date, add the number of Total degree-days "Total" on the day you planted
to 800. Where that value occurs in the "Total" column estimates the date on which 800 DD5C
will occur in that field. It is recommended that applications continue every 14 days until harvest.
For Stubby-root nematode control, Vydate applications should begin at 0 degree-days (at planting)
and followed by an application at the first full irrigation following emergence. An additional
application is recommended at 800 degree-days (DD5C).

Brian’s Notes
Insect Trap Reports: Aphid numbers in yellow pan traps are extremely low; however, look for these numbers to increase as
2nd hay cutting commences.
Soil Degree-Day Accumulation: Early planted potatoes (May 1 – May 7) have reached the 800 degree-day (5C) target. Potatoes planted in mid-May (May 15-20) are approximately 6 days away from the 800 degree-day target. Be sure to check
weekly as these values are updated.
P-day Accumulation: P-days are a measure of potato physiological growth from the time of emergence. Research data has
shown a strong correlation with 300 pdays and the onset of Early Blight. Potatoes which emerged close to May 15 have
reached this target. Those emerging around June 1 should reach this target in the next couple of days while those emerged
around June 15 are at least 12 days away. A preventative fungicide might be warranted if you routinely experience problems
with this disease as the target is getting close.
