Fifth Grade Parent Communication Plan The 5th grade team has set-up guidelines for different forms of communication to parents. Please review the following information for more insight into these areas: Formative Assessments: Graded formatives will have a noted score of P (Proficient), I (In progress) or N (Not yet) to demonstrate performance on the given assignment. They will be sent home on Fridays (see “Feedback Folders” below). Feedback Folders: Every Friday the “Feedback Folder” will be sent home with any graded formatives from that week. Please review this work with your child and sign the folder in the appropriate place. The folder needs to be returned on the following school day so the students can put the next week’s work in it. Communication Folders: The gold folder will be used to bring papers from the office/teacher, home, or for parents to send communications to the teacher ONLY. Please check the folder nightly to ensure that all communications are received in a timely manner. Any papers that need to be filled out and/or returned should come back to school a.s.a.p. and all others should be kept at home. Please be sure that this folder comes to school every day. Assignments Books: Students will record their homework assignments in the assignment books daily. If you find that your child is not recording their homework please remind them of its importance and contact their teacher so that they can be monitored. Homework: Homework should be transported to and from school in the assigned homework folder. Your child will have an average of 60-75 minutes of homework nightly. This will include math, word work, and small group/whole group reading assignments. Students are encouraged to read for 20 minutes in addition to the homework assignments. There will be occasional projects and assignments outside of this throughout the year as well. Any work that was not finished in class may be sent home for the student to complete and does not count in the average allotted time. Contact: The best way to contact your child’s teacher is through email. Mrs. Leone – [email protected] Mrs. Stewart - [email protected] Mrs. Gray – [email protected]
