4th Grade September 2015 Newsletter
Mrs. Aguiar, Ms. Kambies, Mrs. Novick
Dear Parents,
Welcome to the new school year! As we begin this new year, we are looking forward to working
with you and your children. It is important that we work together as a team in order to best support our
children, academically, socially, and behaviorally.
Below we have provided you with policies and procedures to promote a successful home-school
relationship. Students are aware of these expectations as well. Please sign and return the attached form by
Friday, September 18, 2015.
Homework: We appreciate your support in encouraging your children to complete home and school
assignments on time and to give every assignment their best effort. Your child will have math homework
and reading homework Monday through Thursday. All students should be reading every night at home.
This can be out loud to family members or on their own. The total allotted time for homework at this age
level should be no more than 45-60 minutes. Students will be writing their homework assignments in
their assignment books each day at school. This encourages organization and responsibility. Homework
should be transported to and from school in the communication folders.
Communication folder: All students have been given communication folders that will be sent home
daily. Please be sure to check this folder so that you are aware of your child’s assignments every day.
The folder will be used to bring papers from the office/teacher, home, or for parents to send
communications to the teacher. Please check the folder nightly to ensure that all communications are
received in a timely manner. Any papers that need to be filled out and/or returned should come back to
school a.s.a.p. and all others should be kept at home. Please be sure that this folder comes to school every
day. If you want to communicate with your child’s teacher, email is the most effective and quickest
means.

Weekly progress monitoring:
You can follow your child’s progress in all academic areas throughout the school year. We will be
sending home completed classwork, homework, and assessments, etc. periodically. You are also more
than welcome to schedule a parent-teacher meeting at any time in the year if you want to discuss your
child’s progress or behavior.
Interims: If your child is at risk of receiving an N in a subject on the report card or if he/she has
dropped a letter grade, an interim will be sent home mid-quarter. They are to be signed and
returned to school.
Dismissal Procedures: During the first week of school, we take note on each student’s way home. If
there is ever a change in your child’s routine, we must have a note explaining the change to ensure your
children’s safety.
Absences: When your child is absent, please send a note that explains the reason for the absence. It is
also helpful if you call the school on days that your child will be out and let the attendance secretary
know.
General Behavior Expectations: We have spent a lot of time reviewing school and classroom behavior
expectations since day one. Your children should be familiar with the expectations for behavior that is
appropriate and what their roles are in the classroom, cafeteria, and outside at recess. Please talk to them
about the importance of respecting others and taking responsibility for their actions. This will help
provide a comfortable and safe learning environment for all.
The fourth grade teachers are excited to build and maintain relationships with you and your children as
the year progresses. Thank you in advance for your continued support. Here’s to a great year!
Sincerely,
The Fourth Grade Team
