Fourth Grade October Newsletter It was great seeing you all at our Back-to-School Night! Thank you for all the support! Mrs. Aguiar, Ms. Kambies, Mrs. Novick Reading Writing Science and social studies will be integrated into reading this month. Students will compare multiple texts about Native American tribes. They will also identify animal adaptations through informational texts. In guided reading groups, students will use textual evidence to make inferences and support claims. Students will write a historical fiction story set in a Native American time period. They will include dialogue, sensory details, and chronological story elements. Students will learn how to edit their writing for capitalization, punctuation and appropraite setting details. Social Studies Science Math Students will be adding and subtracting multi digit numbers by composing and decomposing place values. They will be subtracting across zeroes and using the standard algorithm form, number lines, and base ten blocks to show their strategies. Finally, students will solve comparison word problems, using mathematical discourse to explain their reasoning. Dates: This month, students will learn about different Native American tribes across the United States. They will be able to compare how the tribes used the environment to meet their needs for shelter, clothing, and food. Students will finish observing the relationships and interactions between the organisms in their ecosystems. They will be able to analyze different food chains within in an ecosystem and how animals adapt to their surroundings to survive. October 12th – Columbus Day, Open House October 16th – No school October 20- Student pictures October 30th – Halloween Party at 2:00 PM, End of the marking period A Big Thank You to all who donated 2-liter bottles for our ecosystem projects!
