Fourth Grade March Newsletter

Reading
Writing
Math
In reading, students will be
reading informational texts to
identify points being made by
the author and supporting the
claims with key details from
the text. Students will be
analyzing the structure and
vocabulary in non-fiction
books and how they help the
readers understand the topic.
In writing, students will be
reading and writing examples
of personal memoirs. They
will be organizing their
thoughts to create a
descriptive and detailed
account of a memory.
Students will be using
sensory details, adjectives,
and figurative language to
enhance their memories.
In math, students will be
adding and subtracting
fractions with similar
denominators and multiplying
fractions by whole numbers.
Students will be solving word
problems involving time
intervals and distances with
fractions as well. Students
will also begin drawing and
identifying geometric terms
such as perpendicular and
parallel lines.
Social Studies
Science
Dates:
In social studies, students will
be learning about the
colonization of early
America. They will be
comparing the relationships
between the settlers and
different Native America
groups and analyzing how
Maryland’s culture was
influenced by other groups
coming in.
In science, students will be
comparing weather
conditions and how they
affect people on a daily basis.
Students will be able to
explain the process of
weather forecasting and its
importance.
