Fourth Grade May Newsletter Mrs. Aguiar, Ms. Kambies, Mrs. Novick Reading Writing Math In reading, students will be reading technical texts that explain processes to identify important details. Students will be able to compare text structures and explain the importance of different text structures. Students will be using context clues to determine meanings of content specific vocabulary words. In writing, students will be researching an inquiry based science question. They will be writing informationl articles based on their research. Students will be able to sort and organize similar facts and use key details to create an article. In math, students will be working with decimals and will be able to convert them to fractions, and solve word problems with decimals. Students will also be able to place decimals (up to hundredths) on number lines and compare decimals to each other. Finally, students will use place value strategies to multiply 2 digit numbers. Social Studies Science Dates: May 9- Chorus Concert In social studies, students will be comparing the different colonies in early Maryland. They will be comparing the settlements and the laws in the different colonies. Students will explain the economies in the colonies and how the people adapted to and used their environment to benefit themselves. In science, students will be exploring and analyzing different types of rocks and minerals in our environment. They will create rocks and mixtures to observe how natural components combine to create compounds. Students will also be able to explain how Earth’s surface changes due to weathering and erosion.
