Please have your child practice basic
multiplication and division facts
every night. We have learned
several different
strategies for solving multiplication
and division problems; however, it is
also very important for each student
to know their basic facts by memory.
If you need more flash cards please
let your child’s teacher know.
Report Cards
The second marking period ends on
January 22nd. The report cards will
be distributed on February 3rd. Feel
free to contact your child’s teacher if
you have any questions/concerns.

Reading
To conclude marking period two,
the reading focus will be
informational text. Instructional
concepts will include:
 Asking and answering questions
based on the information in the
text
 Determining the main idea with
supporting details
 Identifying cause and effect
relationships

For the rest of this quarter, we will
be learning about fractions. Concepts
covered will be:
 Partitioning shapes into equal
parts
 Representing halves, fourths,
and eighths

Our science focus continues the study
of temperatures’ effects on physical
properties of materials. Students will
learn about
 Observable properties
 Testable questions
 How heating and cooling
affects matter
We will continue to develop our
informative writing and opinion writing

supporting facts and details
 Organizing topics and providing
reasons for opinion

mechanics
