On Friday, February 12, we will be
having our class parties in the
afternoon. Thanks to the room
parents for organizing it.
Reading
In February, our reading focus
is on historical fiction. Our
reading objectives are:


Math
We will continue with our study of
fractions and measurement this
month.
 Locate, label, and count
fractional lengths
representing halves,
thirds, fourths, sixths,
and eights on a number
line



Describe the elements of
historical fiction
Describe characters in a
story, explaining how
their actions contribute
to the sequence of
events
Recount details in a text
to determine the central
message
Distinguish your own
point of view from the
narrator’s or the
characters in the text
Language Arts/Writing
Science
We will be continuing opinion
writing skills this month. Skills
covered will be:
 Developing a topic for a
short composition,
 Providing reasons to support
an opinion,
 Composing a conclusion
In science we will:
 Investigate differences in
degrees of heat given off by
objects
 Describe how burning
produces heat
 Investigate materials and
actions that may produce
heat through friction
Language instruction will focus on
irregular verbs and present and
past tenses of verbs.
