Dear Parents:
We are getting close to the end of
the year. Only 5 weeks left!
Interims
Interims for Quarter 4 were sent out
this week. If your child received an
interim, please discuss it with
him/her, sign it and return it to the
homeroom teacher. If you have any
questions, please feel free to contact
us.
Math
In math, students will apply their
understanding of concepts in
Measurement and Data by:
 Telling and writing time to
the nearest minute and
calculating elapsed time
 Estimating and measuring
volume (milliliters and
liters) and mass (grams and
kilograms)
Third Grade Play
We have been working hard on our
musical play production, “Great
Americans of the Twentieth Century”.
The children are very excited to put
on a wonderful performance!
Mark your calendars for the Play
Performances on Friday, June 10th
@ 9:45 and 2:00.
All third graders will be part of the
chorus. Come watch your child be a
part of this enriching experience!
Reading
Third Grade Picnic
The 3rd grade “walking trip” and picnic
to MCT Park is scheduled for
Tuesday, May 24th from 9:30 – 1:30. A
flyer will be sent home with important
information regarding this exciting
event! Please note: Rain date is 5/25.
In May we will conclude our study of
traditional tales by:
 Studying traditional tales and
myths to examine characters,
their actions and points of
view, and compare tales and
their themes

Social Studies
A study of informational text will
begin by:
 Studying an autobiography by
Eric Kimmel to investigate text
features and relationships
between events, ideas and
processes
Students will continue to study
economics by:
 Identifying and explaining how
producers make choices
because of limited resources
 Describing steps in the
production process used to
produce goods
 Developing an achievable yet
challenging budget
Science
Language Arts/Writing
This month, students will be:
 Exploring the interactions and
relationships among living
things and the natural
environment
 Examining how natural
resources are used in our daily
lives
We will continue to develop our
writing skills by:
 Writing opinion pieces on
topics, supporting a point of
view with reasons
 Conducting short research
projects that build knowledge
about a topic
