Gr 2 March 2016

Dear 2nd Grade Parents,
Reading: During March students will be reading literature. They
will be learning to use comprehension strategies such as synthesis
and self-monitoring to analyze text structure and determine
character’s points of view. Please continue to have your child read
20 minutes every night.
Writer’s Workshop: Currently, students are
working on opinion writing. Students began
the process by selecting a book that they think every second
grader should read. We will be guiding them through the process
of making an opinion claim about the book and then supporting
that claim with reasons and evidence from their text.
Math: In math, students are concluding their exploration
of measuring length and will begin measuring time to the
nearest 5 minutes using an analog clock. We will end the
marking period by learning about partitioning shapes like
rectangles and circles into halves, thirds and fourths.
Upcoming Events: International
Night will be held on Friday, March 18th. There will be no school
on Thursday, March 24th due to a professional day for teachers.
Spring break will begin on Friday, March 25th and end when
students return on Monday, April 4th. The marking period will end
April 8th.
Supplies: As we near the end of the year supplies is running low.
Hand sanitizer, black expo markers, and tissues would be greatly
appreciated!
Sincerely,
The 2nd Grade Team
