September Newsletter First Grade Parent Communication Plan Dear Families, We are excited about the new school year and we’re looking forward to working with you and your children. It is important that we work together as a team in order to best support our students. Below we have provided you with policies and procedures to promote a successful homeschool partnership. After you have read and discussed this information with your child, please sign and return the attached form by Friday, September 25, 2015. Homework: We appreciate your support in encouraging your children to complete home and school assignments on time and to give every assignment their best effort. Your child can expect to have math homework and language arts homework Monday through Thursday. Math and language arts assignments are due daily. In general, first graders should expect to spend no more than 45 minutes per day completing homework. Homework should be transported to and from school in the purple communication/homework folder. Any work that was not finished in class may be sent home for the student to complete and does not count in the average allotted time. Purple communication folder: Each first grader has been given a purple folder in which he/she will bring daily homework assignments and at times long-range projects home. Please be sure to check the front of this folder so that you are aware of your child’s assignments every day. The purple folder will be used to bring papers from the office/teacher, home, or for parents to send communications to the teacher ONLY. Please check the folder nightly to ensure that all communications are received in a timely manner. Any papers that need to be filled out and/or returned should come back to school a.s.a.p. and all others should be kept at home. Please be sure that this folder comes to school every day. The two best ways to communicate with the teachers are to send notes in the purple folder or send an e-mail. [email protected] (team leader); [email protected] ; [email protected]; [email protected]; Weekly progress monitoring: You can follow your child’s progress towards his/her understanding of academic concepts throughout the school year. We will be sending home completed classwork, homework, and assessments, etc. periodically. Newsletters: Newsletters will be sent home the second week of each month. They will be available on the school website. Interims: If your child is struggling and is at risk of receiving an N on a subject on the report card, an interim will be sent home mid-quarter. This will be an opportunity for you to contact your child’s teacher to talk about ways to help your child succeed. Dismissal Procedures: The students have already notified us of their normal dismissal routines. If there is ever a change in your child’s routine, we MUST have a note explaining the change. For example, if your child usually rides the bus, you must send a note if he/she needs to be dismissed with car riders or walkers or going home with a friend. If going home with a friend, a note from both parents is needed. Absences: When your student is absent, please send a note that explains the reason for the absence. It is also helpful if you call the school on days that your child will be out and let the attendance secretary know. General Behavior Expectations: We have spent a lot of time these past two weeks on proper behavior expectations. Your children should be familiar with the expectations for behavior that is appropriate. Please talk to them about the importance of respecting others and taking responsibility for their actions. This will help provide a comfortable learning environment for all. Please see the attached behavior policies. Students should only bring educational materials to school. Toys should be left at home, as they can be very distracting. The first grade team will be in continuous communication with you throughout the year. Thank you for taking the time to discuss these expectations with your children and for reviewing them periodically at home. We are looking forward to a great year! Sincerely, The First Grade Team First Grade Parent Communication Plan September 2015 Please sign and return the following: We are aware of the first grade’s policies and procedures and general behavior expectations.
