Reading
Writing
We have been learning how
to use reading strategies. We
are predicting before we read,
using fixing-up strategies
while we read, and using after
reading strategies like
retelling. We have been
learning how to use text
features to comprehend what
we are reading. We are
learning to identify these
features (title, photographs,
table of contents, headings,
captions, labels, index, bold
print, illustration, etc.).
Social Studies
Students have been
participating in shared
research projects. They’ve
been encouraged to ask
questions about their topic
before gathering information.
The topics align with the
science curriculum.
Students are also learning to
distinguish between proper
and common nouns and will
be working on matching verbs
to singular and plural nouns.
Math
We have been learning about
number sense and how to
locate a number on a 120
chart. We have also been
learning about place value and
what each digit represents
(ones, tens, and hundreds
positions). We are beginning
to explore number sentences
in both addition and
subtraction. We are using
problem solving strategies to
help us determine our answers.
