Math
Reading
In marking period 2, we
retell stories, including key
details, and demonstrate
understanding of their
central message or lesson.
With prompting and
support, we read prose and
poetry. We identify the
main topic. We describe
characters, settings, and
major events in a story,
using key details.
Writing
Five areas are covered during the second
marking period.
*Narrative- Students recall familiar experiences
and use those to compose narratives that
recount several events with details, sequence
the events and provide a sense of closure.
*Use of language instruction focuses on using
pronouns, verbs, and adjectives to include
details in narratives.
*Informative/Explanatory- Students will name
a topic, supply facts and provide closure.
*Opinion- Students introduce a topic, state
their opinion, supply reason(s) for their
opinion, and provide closure.
Process, Production and Research- Students
focus on a topic, respond to feedback and add
details to writing, use a variety of digital tools
to publish writing; participate in shared
research and writing projects.
Social Studies
In marking period 2, we now
have a stronger sense of
numbers. While working on
our math strategies, we have
discovered the meaning of
place value. As we look at
numbers, we will continue to
problem solve by completing
addition and subtraction
problems. We will continue to
use several manipulatives to
help us solve these problems:
cubes, bears, number lines, etc.
We will continue to work on all
of these strategies throughout
the second marking period.
Dates:
Science
In marking period 2,
students will learn about
family customs and culture.
Students will be able to
discuss and write about
how family groups interact,
as well as how they share
similarities and differences
in their cultures. We will
also define what an artifact
is and how it relates to
specific cultures. We will
discuss similarities and
differences between past
and present events in
various world cultures.
In quarter 2, students will discuss living and
non-living things. Students will investigate the
movement of non-living objects. The
movement of various objects will be compared.
We will also classify different materials and
how they can be moved using magnets.
