Team
Dear Parents
Wow, it’s hard to believe we are in the month of May! Please see
the upcoming dates listed below and add them to your calendars.
There will be no school for students on May 9th or 10th because
of Kindergarten Orientation. On the 20th, we will be taking our
final field trip of the year to the National Zoo in D.C. The kids
are already very excited about the trip! Towards the end of the
month please join us for Dolphinmania. It is a great family event
with lots of activities and games for everyone to enjoy.

Math
In math kindergarten has been working
on addition and subtraction. Classes will continue
working on addition and subtraction throughout
the rest of the year. Beginning in May, we will
begin identifying coins and their values (pennies,
nickels, dimes). Students will learn how to count
and add mixed change up to 19¢.
Science
We will continue our studies of
the features and characteristics
of plants and animals. We will
specifically focus on the ways
animals and plants adapt to
their surroundings.
Social Studies
Throughout May kindergar-
ten students will be learning about the types of family
traditions. We will be sharing some of the specific traditions and customs present in our classroom. This is
going to provide a great opportunity to emphasize our
similarities and difference that make us each unique.
Reading
We will be focusing on reading information-
al stories this month. The informational books we will be
reading will be related to other content areas. For example:
coins, animals and family traditions. During word work,
classes will create graphic organizers to sort words by
ending sounds.
