Science
Reading/Writing
During our reading lessons this month, we will be focusing on story structure and retelling literary text.
We will also be creating and reading words which use
the –ug,-up,-un chunks as well as the short and log e
sounds.
We will begin to retell and identify rhyme in poetry and
continue to describe text features used in non-fiction
text (table of contents, labels, glossary).
During writing students will be writing about their personal experiences. We will be using action words and
feeling words in our writing. Towards the end of the
month our focus will be writing to inform. We will be
discussing the features of biographies, conducting our
own classmate interviews and organizing the exciting
new information we have learned!
Social Studies
We will discuss how various needs are met.
such as: toys and tools, food, shelter, transportation, and communication.
We will compare toys used today with those
used in the past, as well as describe changes
in the way(s) that people communicate.
Throughout
April, we will
continue to
describe the
external features of animals and
how they adapt to the world
around them.
We will describe the movement of
various animals and even try to
move like animals ourselves!
Math
We will compare sets of objects in order to
determine if a set is greater of fewer than a
given set.
We will begin using manipulatives to add and
subtract.
Thinking and Academic Skill
Focus:
Originality– We will think creatively and share
our new ideas and solutions to a given problem
or situation.
Metacognition-we will share our thought pro-
cesses and evaluate how we use these processes to learn new things.
