1. How does a poet use figurative language to make a
poem interesting?
2. How does word choice effect meaning and feeling
of the poem?
3. How does analyzing the elements of poetry help
me to understand and interpret what I read?
What do we need to know and be able to do?
 We will be able to read and comprehend poetry.
 We will increase our knowledge of different genres.
 We will increase our awareness of how poems affect
or mood.
What words do we need to know to master the objectives?
 Figurative language-simile, metaphor,
personification, mood, tone, imagery
 Structure- lines, stanza
How will we master the objectives?
 By analyzing elements of poetry.
 By determining important ideas and messages.
 By identifying and describing the author’s use of
language.
