 Math: We will u se multi-
plicative comparison s to
represent situational
data and be able to solve
word problems with comparisons.
 Science: We a re working
on our first unit on ecosystems. The students
are finding out how various factors affect en vironments and the organisms that live there.
 Social Studies: Stu-
dents ha ve been studying
the Native Americans of
the Ea stern Woodlands
and comparing/
contrasting ways they
used the natural en vironment for food, shelter
and clothing before the
founding of the 13 British colonies.

first four weeks of
school and for the remainder of the month
(and quarter), we are
reading informational
texts, focusing on basic
reading comprehension
skills and strengthen ing
our vocabularies with
academic content words.
 Writing: Students have
already completed a
character analysis paper
and are now in the process of resea rching a
chosen historical event.
They will use this information in the creation of
an original historical fiction sto ry they will be
writing this month.

Homework
 On most evenings
the students should
have the following
assignments: math,
reading for at least
30 minutes, spelling,
and when assigned,
reading
comprehension.
 Please continue to
check your child’s
homework nightly!

Fall Festivities
 Our Fall Parties and cos-
tume parade will be on
Thursday, October 30th.
 The children are not
required to dress up,
however, if they choo se
to wear a costume,
please make sure that it
is an appropriate costume for sc hool
(NO weapons, blood, or
revealing clothing).
 We will be parading with
everyone in the school,
please make sure the
costume is not too scary
for the younger students.
 If you would like to plan
your child’s Fall pa rty,
please contact your
child’s teacher.
 More information re-
garding the times will be
sent home on a flyer
closer to the date of the
party.
