Jackson Road Elementary School 301.989.5650 Curriculum Corner September 2015 Academic Success Skills Math Science Throughout the first marking period, collaboration and analysis will be integrated throughout all subject areas. The students will begin September by adding and subtracting within 1000 (composing/ decomposing a ten and a hundred) and explain relationships among strategies and algorithms. Throughout September, we will observe and describe changes in an object’s motion, explain how tools, materials, and skills are used to make things and carry out tasks, and suggest possible causes for changes in the motion of objects as they move across different textured surfaces. Math Vocabulary: Compose- to group ten parts into one whole. (Formerly referred to as “regrouping” or “carrying over.”) Reading During this month, the students will brainstorm facts and details about an experience before writing. Your child will also practice speaking clearly at an understandable pace while sharing their writing. Day SCHOOL CLOSED September 8th – 5. Grades 3- Parents will meet in APR at *We will need to compose a ten, by grouping 10 ones. Writing Holiday – Labor Night! + 29 Decompose – to break apart a whole into ten parts. (Formerly referred to as “borrowing” or “stealing.”) September 7st – Back to School Ex. 26 In reading this month, the students will make inferences about how a character’s actions contribute to the sequence of events. We will also use key details to determine the main idea of a text. Important dates: Social Studies In Social Studies, we will describe the contributions of the county executive and county council members that have made a positive difference in the community.
