Kindergarten Connection March 2016 Springtime is almost here and our kindergarteners are really starting to bloom! We are seeing them make many wonderful strides in reading, writing, and math! Please continue to work with your child each night to help them develop good work study habits and understand the importance of homework. Your continued support is so appreciated! Reading and Language Arts Our Focus: Comprehension of informational/explanatory text: text features, Kindergarten Teachers Mrs. Collins Ms. DeBold Ms. Mattsen Mrs. Meadows Mrs. Rydzewski Important Dates sequence, main ideas, and identifying meaning of unknown words. Learning about the meaning of unknown words in text and identifying and discussing new words and text features found in informational and non-fiction texts. Learning how the text feature numbered steps helps you understand the text Students will use background knowledge and facts from the text to identify the main idea. Please make sure your child fully completes each homework box appropriately as the directions state. Please practice reading and writing the kindergarten words with your child sides each night as part of their homework. -three-dimensional shapes At home, please practice looking at the clock to help your child understand -faces its components and begin identifying and counting with pennies, nickels, and dimes. Specials Update Art In March, Kindergarten students will continue working with clay. We have begun our pinch pot lesson, each student made a small pot with a lid, and next we will create small owls out of a slab of clay. Both projects will be glazed so students can have a shiny, smooth work of art! Music During the month of March, students will be working on identifying repeating sections of music. We will continue to focus on identifying long and short sounds and representing them with icons. We will also sing songs that use the voice in many different ways. P.E . In P.E., Kindergarten Students will be working on both balance and weight transfer activities. These activities will include some basic tumbling skills.
