Important Information and Reminders

Please come to school on time by 9:15.

Please remember that if you choose to purchase or have your child make Valentine
cards, please make sure your child makes one for every child in the classroom. We
want everyone to feel included.

Please practice reading and writing the kindergarten words with your child each
night as part of their homework. If you need another copy of these words, please
let your child’s teacher know.

IXL.com is a great resource to practice math at home. Ask your child’s teacher if
you need a reminder of your child’s user name and password.

Please label all coats, hats, and gloves with your child’s name. This makes it much
easier to return lost items.
Art
In February, Kindergarten students will continue with our observational drawing of
musical instruments borrowed from Ms. Holden. After drawing the instruments from real
life, we will experiment with watercolor crayons! For our next project, we will explore
clay again, focusing on where clay comes from and what we can do with it. Each
student will have the chance to make a pinch pot with a lid and glaze our pots, adding
color.
Music
Students will work on exploring different types of tone color using the voice and
classroom instruments. Students will continue to work on identifying musical opposites
by identifying the difference between long and short sounds. Students will also be
working on identifying repeating sections of music.
P.E.
In PE, Kindergarten students will be practicing their fundamental jumping and landing
patterns in addition to working on balance.
Information Literacy in the Media Center
Mrs. Portocarrero-Pitt will see Kindergarten classes in the computer lab for 2 weeks in
February. For the first class they will be listening to a narrative story, Duck on a Bike, and
then learn how to use a drawing application called Pixie 3.
As they listen to the story we will make connections to the story. I wonder how many
kindergarteners already know how to ride a bike? I will ask questions about the setting,
events, and characters in the stories. Our kindergarteners learn that authors use details
to describe the events and discuss how characters react to these events.
Using Pixie they will learn to use various tools to draw their own duck!
During week 3 and 4 kindergarteners will write informative texts. Students will select an
animal, formulate a question about that animal and locate the answer using print and
digital sources.
