Math
These are the math concepts we will focus on this month:
*Count forward beginning from a given number within the known sequence
(instead of having to start at 1).
*Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than,
or equal to the number of objects in another group, e.g., by using matching and
counting strategies. (Include groups with up to ten objects.)
* When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing
each object with one and only one number name and each number name with one
and only one object.
*Count to 100 by ones and by tens.
* Measurement using non-standard units such as cubes. Measuring length and
weight of objects. Using balance scales to compare weights.

Important Information and Reminders

Please remember to work with your child every night on their homework. It is so
important to develop good homework skills. Return the homework every Friday!

Please label all of your child’s coats, hats, scarves, and mittens so they can be easily
identifiable in case they get lost or left out on the recess playground.
SPECIALIST
Music
Students will continue to play the steady beat on classroom instruments. We are also exploring
our singing voices by singing songs that use the voice in many different ways. Students will be
identifying sounds as either loud or soft. Students will be exploring various types of tone color
using the voice and various classroom instruments.
Information Literacy
During December Kindergarten students will listen to and discuss narrative text to make personal
connections. They ask and answer questions about the events and characters in the stories. They learn
that authors use details to describe the events. Students continue to think about how books and other
media can serve as models for ideas to help them as writers.
Art
In December, Kindergarten students will continue to work on texture and 2D verses 3D art while
creating clay tiles that show texture and we will use glaze paints to add color to our tiles. Students love
these little tiles and often wear them as necklaces or hang them from door knobs! Look for these to
come home in the coming weeks!
PE
In Physical Education, kindergarten students will continue working on catching a self-thrown ball. They
will also work on concepts such as around and through, over and under, on and off, and near and far.
