April First Grade

Hello, Parents!
We are now beginning the fourth quarter of the
school year, and we are very excited about the
progress all of our students have made this year!
Please note that this coming week will be
STEM week. Look for information how students
can show their excitement about Science,
Technology, Engineering and Math- as well as the
college and career choices they inspire!
Lastly, we are always looking for guest
readers. Children love when their parents or
grandparents come in and share one of their
favorite books! Please consider signing up with
your child’s teacher by e-mailing or sending
him/her a note indicating you are interested.
Sincerely,
Your First Grade Team
Mr. Clark, Mrs. Czarnopys, Miss Kim,
Mrs. Geraci, Mrs. Mutiga, and Mrs. Robeson
We could all use sharpened pencils, erasers,
glue sticks, and tissues to replenish our
classroom supplies. THANK YOU!!!

Please continue to have our children practice their basic math
facts for addition and subtraction daily. This daily practice
goes a long way as math facts are the foundation for all future

In the Computer Lab, we will begin our last inquiry project
of the year by locating information and sharing ideas for our
extended writing called Sharing Our Earth. This project is
connected to our social studies and science content. Our
students will explore the inquiry-driving question: How can
we share our Earth with other living things and provide jobs,
goods, and services to fulfill human wants? They will build
their background knowledge by examining a variety of
resources about how humans produce and distribute goods
and services and how these actions can help or harm the
environment.
In Music, first grade students will be reading and notating music
and organizing musical ideas and sounds creatively.
In PE, first graders just finished their tumbling unit. To start the
fourth quarter, they will focus on kicking a stationary ball at a
target.
In Mrs. Raker’s Art, first graders will begin a lesson on
expression of thoughts and feelings using 3-D art while making
masks. We will use our hands to trace the shape of the mask
and then use paint to add shapes and patterns to these designs.
We will enhance our masks by adding glitter as a final touch!
