October 12-16, 2015 First Grade’s Weekly Newsletter Reading We will read information books and ask and answer questions about the key details. We will identify what we learn from the images and what we learn from the words. We will sort words into categories. Teacher’s Corner Every Wednesday in October is a PINK OUT DAY. Wear as much pink as possible to support Breast Cancer Awareness! Every Friday is Fan Friday! Wear a team shirt; any team will do, even your child’s own little league team! Many thanks to Mrs. Mukhija for volunteering to be the lead class mom in Mrs. Carroll’s class! Please send in $10 for classroom celebrations. The Feed the Bear PTA fundraiser is ongoing- please thing about helping the PTA by supporting it. There will be no other fundraisers if they raise enough money now! Thanks to all of the classroom volunteers who have started coming Writing Students will work on informational writing and research facts about an animal. We will add details to our writing and edit for capital letters and end marks. Math Students will use a variety of strategies to solve problems about an addition or subtraction situation. Social Studies We will identify and discuss American symbols like the Statue of Liberty, the flag, and the bald eagle. Science Students will be introduced to food chains. They will identify herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. Upcoming Events: Thursday, October 15 PTA Spirit Night - Corner Bakery Friday, October 16 No school!
