First Grade’s Weekly Newsletter
Reading
We will ask and answer questions about
key details in the information texts we
read. We will look at what we learn from
pictures or photographs and what we get
from the words (text).
Teacher’s Corner

This will be the last week that we
provide snack. Please put a little
something extra in your child’s lunch
that they can eat in the morning.
If your child is buying lunch, please
have them bring a little snack too

Please consider ‘layering’ when
helping your child select clothing on
school-days. Our mornings are
chilly, but afternoons can be warm.
Also, MCPS will be switching from
the cooling system to the heating
system later this month. The
transition does not happen instantly,
and there are usually several weeks
where layers are helpful.
Writing
Students will use information they
researched in the media center to
write about ants.
Math
Students will use and explain a variety of
strategies to solve unknown numbers in
story problems. They will use and explain
number lines as a strategy for solving
addition and subtraction problems.
Social Studies
Students will generate ideas about
what makes a great leader and find
examples using past and present
leaders.
