October 5-9, 2015 First Grade’s Weekly Newsletter Reading We will ask and answer questions about key details in the information texts we read. We will look at what we learn from pictures or photographs and what we get from the words (text). Teacher’s Corner This will be the last week that we provide snack. Please put a little something extra in your child’s lunch that they can eat in the morning. If your child is buying lunch, please have them bring a little snack too Please consider ‘layering’ when helping your child select clothing on school-days. Our mornings are chilly, but afternoons can be warm. Also, MCPS will be switching from the cooling system to the heating system later this month. The transition does not happen instantly, and there are usually several weeks where layers are helpful. Writing Students will use information they researched in the media center to write about ants. Math Students will use and explain a variety of strategies to solve unknown numbers in story problems. They will use and explain number lines as a strategy for solving addition and subtraction problems. Social Studies Students will generate ideas about what makes a great leader and find examples using past and present leaders.
