THE FIRST GRADE SCOOP September 28October 2 First Grade’s Weekly Newsletter Reading Students will be using the Junior Great Book, The King of the Frogs to create opinions, find examples of leadership and authority, and develop inferences. Writing We will identify common and proper nouns. We will learn the parts of a friendly letter and write letters to our classmates. Math Students will learn addition strategies as we compose and decompose numbers. For example, 10=9+1, 10=8+2, 10=7+3 ... 10=5+3+2….. Teacher’s Corner Remember to practice playing your math games at home There is the 10 Frame game and we added the teen numbers to that one. The different Tens and Ones Fun game cards were sent home too! We try to walk the “Bear” way in the hall. This means we walk silently in a single file on the right side of the hallway. We stop at the stop signs and yield to other classes or people. We keep our hands and feet off the walls and look at student work that is displayed without touching it. Some classes are earning bears and trying to win the trophy! Social Studies We will continue to learn about leaders in our community. We will discuss how authority is used to: keep people safe, enforce rules or maintain order. Upcoming Events: October 2- Early dismissal Science We will observe plants. We will identify the parts of a plant and ways to take care of a plant. October 5- Picture day October 16- No school
