2011 winner

Announcement from the Center for Oceans Law and Policy
Haryo Nugroho is the winner of the 2011 International Cable Protection Committee Writing
Award for his paper “Law of the Sea Aspects of Indonesian National Legislation on Submarine
Telecommunications Cable.”
Mr. Nugroho will receive a monetary prize of £1000 for the paper. The legal writing contest was
established in 2010 by the Rhodes Academy of Oceans Law and Policy (Rhodes Academy) and
the International Cable Protection Committee (ICPC) to encourage legal writing on submarine
cables and law of the sea of a standard suitable for publication in international legal literature.
The contest was open to all former and current students of the Rhodes Academy on the topic of
submarine cables and international law.
The Rhodes Academy is an intensive, three-week course of study, with lectures by leading
jurists, practitioners, and international law faculty from around the world. It takes place every
July in Rhodes, Greece. Its primary sponsor is UVA’s Center for Oceans Law and Policy.
