ARTICULATION AGREEMENT

the Montgomery County Public Schools

INTRODUCTION:
In the past several years, technological advanceshave changed the
processesand equipmentused in a growing number of technical fields. Today's workforce is
confrontedwith diverseand complex technicalconceptsand equipmentand must have a broad
understandingof the comprehensiveprinciples that govern the behavior of the systemsand
subsystems
that makeup the work environment.
Administration,curriculum coordinators,and the respectivefacultiesof the MontgomeryCounty
Public Schools (MCPS) and the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) have
examined the course competenciesand content taught at both institutions in Network
Operations andNetwork Technology andhaveagreedto:
Develop, for the maximum benefit of students,an articulatedprogramin Network Operations
to preparestudentsfor careersin microcomputerinstallation,configurationand control systems,
network installation, configuration,operation,and troubleshooting.Studentscompletinga two
semestersequenceshould be able to pass the vendor-neutralCompTIA A+ and Network+
examinations. Thesetwo certificationsare rapidly becomingpart of the basic credentialsthat
help thosegoing into networkmanagement.
CERTIFICATION: Studentswho wish to enter CCBC will present an official high school
transcript attached to a completed Teacher RecommendationForm, verifying successful
completionof the articulatedcourseswith a gradeof B or better to The Community Collegeof
Baltimore County, Office of Recordsand Registration. To receivecredit, studentsmust emoll at
CCBC within five years of completion of an articulatedprogram with MCPS. Credit will be
transferredupon admissioninto CCBC.

StudentsseekingCCBC creditsfor individual course(s)underthis Articulation Agreementmust
additionally provide satisfactoryevidenceof having passedcertain CompTIA examinations,via
original exam score sheetsor certificates,for each articulatedcourseto be awarded,as shown

IMPLEMENTATION: To implementthis agreement,the participatinginstitutionsagreeto:

Offer approved MCPS courses during Grades 9-12 in mathematics, science, and
technology that include prerequisite skills and content for courses offered in The
Community College of Baltimore County curriculum in the Information Technology
Program. Studentswill be encouragedto pursue a challenging academicprogram in
Grades 9-12. Studentsmay be required to take developmentalcoursesin English,
reading, and mathematicsbefore moving on to the next level course in their chosen
CCBC program.
Upon completion of the specific MCPS technical courses,outlined in this Agreement,
studentsmay receive college credit when they enter the CCBC Network Technology
Program.

THIS AGREEMENT, having been fonnulated by the responsiblefaculties and administrative
personnelof the MontgomeryCounty Public Schoolsand the Community College of Baltimore
County, and having beencertified by the chief academicofficers of both institutions,is herewith
agreedto this 1st day of August, 2006 for implementationbeginning with the fall semesterof
2006.
