ARTICULATION AGREEMENT

Montgomery County Public Schools Program: Network Operations
INTRODUCTION: In the past severalyears,technologicaladvanceshave changedthe processes
and equipmentusedin a growing numberof technicalfields. Today's workforce is confrontedwith
diverseand complextechnicalconceptsand equipmentand must have a broadunderstandingof the
comprehensiveprinciples that governthe behaviorof the systemsand subsystemsthat make up the
work environment.
Administration, curriculum coordinators,and the respectivefaculties of the Montgomery County
Public Schools(MCPS) and DeVry University have examinedthe coursecompetenciesand content
taughtat both institutionsin Network Operations andNetwork SystemsAdministration/Network
& Communications Managementandhaveagreedto:
Develop, for the maximum benefit of students,an articulatedprogram in Network Operations to
prepare students for careers in microcomputer installation, configuration and control systems,
network installation, configuration, operation, and troubleshooting.Students completing a two
semestersequenceshould be able to pass the vendor-neutral CompTIA A+ and Network+
examinations. Thesetwo certificationsare rapidly becomingpart of the basic credentialsthat help
thosegoing into networkmanagement.
CERTIFICATION: Studentswho wish to enterDeVry University will presentan official high school
transcript attachedto a completedArticulation AgreementCredit Award Form verifying successful
completionof the articulatedcourseswith a gradeof B or better to the Registrar'sOffice of DeVry
University, Crystal City Campus,2450 Crystal Drive, Arlington, VA 22202. To receive credit,
studentsmust enroll at DeVry University within five yearsof completionof an articulatedprogram
with MCPS. Credit will be transferredupon admissioninto DeVry University into an applicable
programandcompletionof one (1) semesterof study.

OTHER SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Students seeking DeVry University credits for individual course(s) under this Articulation
Agreement must additionally provide satisfactoryevidence of having passedcertain CompTIA
examinations,via original exam score sheetsor certificates, for each articulated course to be
awarded,asshownbelow:
IMPLEMENTATION:
To implementthis agreement,the participatinginstitutionsagreeto:
1.
Offer approvedMCPS coursesduring Grades9-12 in mathematics,science,and technology
that include prerequisite skills and content for courses offered in DeVry University
curriculum in the InformationTechnologyProgram.Studentswill be encouragedto pursuea
challenging academic program in Grades 9-12. Students may be required to take
developmentalcoursesin English, reading,and mathematicsbefore moving on to the next
level coursein their chosenDeVry University program.
2.
Upon completion of the specific MCPS technical courses outlined in this Agreement,
studentsmay receive college credit when they enter DeVry University's Network Systems
Administrationor Network & CommunicationManagementProgram.
3.
Jointly develop promotional materialsto describethe program to students,staff, faculties,
parents,andthe community.
Jointly developand implementa procedureto monitor, evaluate,and assessthe effectiveness
of the program.
Communicatethis agreementto all concerned,including counselors,faculty, students,and

Designate one MCPS administrator and one DeVry University representative with
responsibilityfor coordinatingand supervisingthe agreement.
Review the agreementannually and coordinateany curricular changesthat may affect the
agreement.
THIS AGREEMENT, having been fonnulated by the responsiblefaculties and administrative
personnel of the Montgomery County Public Schools and DeVry University, and havinJt-been
