INTRODUCTION: In the past severalyears,technologicaladvanceshave changedthe processesand
equipmentusedin a growing number of technicalfields. Today's workforce is confrontedwith diverse
and complex technical concepts and equipment and must have a broad understandingof the
comprehensive
principles that governthe behaviorof the systemsand subsystemsthat makeup the work
environment.
Administration, cmriculurn coordinators,and the respectivefaculties of Montgomery County Public
Schools(MCPS) and HagerstownConmtunityCollege (HCC) have examinedthe coursecompetencies
and contenttaught at both institutions in Network Operations and Information SystemsTechnology
andhaveagreedto:
Develop,for the maximumbenefit of students,an articulatedprogramin Network Operations to prepare
studentsfor careersin microcomputerinstallation,configuration& control systems,network installation,
configuration,operation,and troubleshooting.Studentscompletinga two semestersequenceshouldbe
ableto passthe vendor-neutralCompTIA A+ and Network+ examinations. Thesetwo certificationsare
rapidly becomingpart of the basiccredentialsthat help thosegoing into network management.
CERTIFICATION: Studentswho wish to enterHagerstownCommunity College will presentan official
high school transcript attachedto a completedArticulation Agreement Credit Award Form verifying
successfulcompletionof the articulatedcourseswith a gradeof B or betterto the HagerstownCommunity
College Office of Admissions, Records,and Registration. To receive credit, studentsmust enroll at
HagerstownCommunity College within five yearsof completionof an articulatedprogramwith MCPS.
Credit will be transferred upon admission into HagerstownCommunity College into an applicable
programandcompletionof one (I) semesterof study.

institutionsagreeto:
1.
Offer approved Montgomery County Public Schools courses during grades nine through
twelve in mathematics, science, and technology that include prerequisite skills and content
for courses offered in the Hagerstown Community College curriculum in the Information
SystemsTechnology Program. Studentswill be encouragedto pursuea challenging academic
program in grades nine through twelve. Studentsmay be required to take developmental
coursesin English, reading, and mathematicsbefore moving on to the next level course in
their chosenHagerstownCommunity College program.
2.
Upon completion of the specific MCPS technical courses, outlined in this Agreement,
students may receive college credit when they enter Hagerstown Community College's
Information SystemsTechnology Program.
3.
Jointly develop promotional materials to describe the program to students,staff, faculties,
parents,and the community.
4.
Jointly develop and implement a procedureto monitor, evaluate,and assessthe effectiveness
of the program.

Communicate this agreementto all concerned,including counselors, faculty, students,and
parents.
6.
Designate one MCPS administrator and one HCC representative with responsibility for
coordinating and supervising the agreement
7.
Review the agreement annually and coordinate any curricular changesthat may affect the
agreement
